Horrors heaped upon us by the Cycling Industry

The unround steerer tubes are the products of full internal routing. Please stop this non-sense and make changing headset bearings easy agian.

+1 for this topic!
To add another one:
Powermeters; Everybody now seems to need one, it needs to be double-sided, super accurate and they are still way too expensive.
But.. I believe payback time is coming. The cycling industry isn't doing well atm, and that's largely because of their own pricing/product strategies imho.

Power meters are not for everyone, but they are probably as useful as a regular bike computer.
You don't need one, does it matter how fast you are going? Cadence? Grade? GPS? No, but it's really nice to have, which is why I have a power meter. When people are talking how many watts they are producing, I now know what that means. I you never owned one, you have no clue how much that effort is.
As for accuracy, it is important, but as long as you are using the same power meter for all your rides [and training] for me, it does not matter. I did have a PowerTap hub meter and I was able to produce at least 1,600 watts regularly, even when I was coasting. Yeah, when the accuracy is that bad, it's important. Someone stole that bike which was a good thing for me.

I didn't add PMs to my list of industry horrors, as they are usually an optional extra. Where they are standard on top end machines the price usually includes other highly marked up items like a couple of sheets of ultra ultra light carbon weave to reduce frame weight by 3g (I'm looking at you Cannondale with your Lab71 aspirational branding trickery).

This post is mostly a joke right? While I agree with od2 and hookless rest has to be trolling

Don't give views to that asshat. Its just playing to the algorithm in the worst possible way. It's so weird cycling is a fairly niche sport but it's got so many shit youtubers that figure out the tabloid way is so much easier to gain views that true content creation.
Nickldn, you forgot to add integraded cockpits and cabling to your list!
Killing the messanger is never ever a great idea, especially when there is a possibility, however remote, that he is correct, and you end up looking not so good or worse eh....that being said and on the postive side, at least you didn't stoop so low as to call his wife ugly.EtoDemerzel wrote: ↑Mon Sep 02, 2024 3:38 pmDon't give views to that asshat. What can I say, the world of fashion in its search for new shiny baubles is notoriously fickle. That aside they were quite ubiquitous in MTB so they were in fact a standard in the bike world and those old school farts at Colnago actually introduced a disc road frame in 2013 ( and frankly I didn't see a huge wave of support or enthusiasm for this concept on this site....though that may just be due to the fact that the shill count on the forum had not reached critical mass yet ).

I doubt that would be doable with internal cables. I think we are much more likely to see a more widespread diffusion of "maintenance-free" (ish) headsets like the CeramicSpeed SLT, than we are to see "changing bearings being easy again".

Has nothing to do with whether you like rim or disc. I have both and like both.blutto wrote: ↑Mon Sep 02, 2024 4:41 pmKilling the messanger is never ever a great idea, especially when there is a possibility, however remote, that he is correct, and you end up looking not so good or worse eh....that being said and on the postive side, at least you didn't stoop so low as to call his wife ugly.EtoDemerzel wrote: ↑Mon Sep 02, 2024 3:38 pmDon't give views to that asshat. He's just pandering the rim brake crowd, just like his hambini video trying to get views off bs drama, playing the algorithm for views. Same shit.
and WTF how do you go from hashing his content "rim brake virtue signalling" to speaking ill of his wife? I mean WT actual F

Yep. It's fine. I think people going after full-internal routing are well aware of the situation and expect to pay for the premium. Just not for me.
