I think he's a very smart, serious, and intense young man. His personality type is perhaps what he needs for accomplishing the goals he has set for himself. Could be that he is just more authentic than others that present themselves as more consistently cheerful. Regardless, I have no problem forgiving much at the personal level - I just sit back and enjoy his riding. I thnk he's doing just fine for a 24 year old in a sport where your life is constantly on the line. Has a bit of a temper but never loses his shit. By comparison Djokovic is a selfish meathead playing a country club sport for 100's of $millions.CustomMetal wrote: ↑Sat Aug 03, 2024 10:28 pmDidn't just mean today, in general feel he, like Novak, doesn't come across as well as his peers to win over the crowd

I think your quote sums up how he comes across.I think he's a very smart, serious, and intense young man. His personality type is perhaps what he needs for accomplishing the goals he has set for himself.
You can have success with a variety of personality types of course. I've worked with a lot of people at the top of what they do and the majority are surprisingly normal and humble and there are plenty of people with massive egos and a massive chip on their shoulder who are not successful at all. Life takes all types
I've seen a few clips of Remco and there are times when it sounds like Patrick Lefevere talking which is where he strays in Novak territory for me, but I doubt fan opinion is going to bother Remco in the slightest

Was Remco riding tubeless on his initial bike?robbosmans wrote: ↑Sat Aug 03, 2024 7:52 pmYeah was pretty clearspokenwords wrote:did Remco have a flat? or did he have another high anxiety moment where he thought he had a flat, but didnt? or what?
Anyone has more info or a picture to make this clear?
Soudal-Quickstep is known to be one of the last teams on clinchers/tubulars. I went to the start of Brabantse Pijl and Amstel Gold Race this spring and Soudal-Quickstep was about the only team not on tubeless.
He finished on a bike with tubes
Remco has this sort of football player vibe about him, but it's clear the impact cycling environment has on him does temper and calm him down. after all it seems like a very friendly and positive workspace the pro peloton. besides he does comes across as inteligent and self aware (and doesn't belong to the tin foil hat society)Mr.Gib wrote: ↑Sat Aug 03, 2024 10:51 pmI think he's a very smart, serious, and intense young man. NK on the other hand behaves like someone who finally tasted power (money, fame, dominance) and now wants to show everyone his superiority. some expressions of behavior may appear similar (like bursts of anger) but the intensity and circumstances make all the difference.
afaik Remco''s 'tightness' stems from his approach - he's just dead serious about racing. while Pog often acts as this crazy electron, 'oops i did it again' kind of thing, Remco is just 100% focused and dedicated. but these are not neccessarily indicators of how they are in their 'private' lifes (where's the line between the two in case of world class athletes is another thing). let's not forget social media are just a marketing tool and need a certain approach from athletes to work. besides not everyone does feel like fooling around and "share" which in case of disciplines where focus and dedication are everything is perfectly understandable.
long post short - id love to have a bear with each and every one of the 3 amigos. add MVDP or even 'uptight' WVA to that list while we're on it. hell even Pidcock (who has this selfishness about him) night totally be a nice chap and a positive human being. but who we see when they perform does not need to be, and frankly speaking can't be, "them 100%".
oh and i'd add Pete Sampras to the list of my dream pub acquaintaces - dude who showed emotions ONCE in his entire career. he wouldn't be a fans favourite in todays instagram era...

still curious how the team car knew he had a flat. I read that the car had just been allowed in the gap but I dont remember seeing any sort of communication from Remco. Did he flat right in front of them (the luckiest unlucky flat ever)? Was he on tubulars and rode it flat for a while? The coverage kinda sucked though so maybe missed something. As for coverage, I dont need to keep seeing the French attractions on the last laps of the race.
Two Afghani sisters off the front together in the womens RR. Pretty awesome.

Again, no radios for riders. What's he gonna do, send a carrier pigeon?spokenwords wrote: ↑Sun Aug 04, 2024 2:18 pmI dont remember seeing any sort of communication from Remco.
Presumably the guys in the car were watching on TV just like everyone else, and listening to the race radio. https://www.cyclingnews.com/news/not-a- ... road-race/

Faulkner!!! What a smart race. She has great racing IQ.
GB seemed to waste a huge advantage way too early. They were so strong but way too anxious.
Another medal for the queen of cycling too. Great race.

Great team effort by USA. Dygert falls off at the right place to delay Kopecky and Wiebes, Faulkner does what Faulkner does to take the win
Joking aside, brilliant ride from her, it's a well deserved win
