Yes, sorry was looking at Tobin's gear graph, which is of course a paragon of virtue. :D

This one is more biased to 17T-28T, suggesting the chainrings are too large.

The point about 10t not being a concern on steep descents stands, though I agree it looks odd, as if rider just shifts to 10T when riding downhill by default.

On a hilly ride, time in gears will be biased toward the first half of the cassette. It takes roughly 3-4x as long to climb vs descend. I don’t think the time spent in 28-17t suggests his chainrings are too large because he spends almost no time in the 33t.

It’s all very confusing and I can see why you’d think he needs smaller chainrings while rodeambro simultaneously thinks he needs larger ones.
