Has anyone ever seen a handle bar/stem mounted "thing" that one
would put turn by turn directions in and it would allow one to
keep them dry and visible?

I assume you're not talking about a GPS, so laminated paper and double sided tape?

I am talking about something one step above tape and paper...
It would mount to stem or bars and be a module of a
Post-It, ??? waterproof/resistant, etc. etc

Anybody interested in working on a proptype?

BITROD, motorcycle reliability trial riders used to use something akin to a cylinder with a slit cut in it, and the route instructions written on a paper stream were wound out of it using a spindle.
Might be worth googling images and seeing if you can construct something similar

While the size is about 50 times larger than needed, the use of the Topeak i-phone holder is not bad- thanks!

I used to have a clamp on a string that I would put directions in a plastic bag on my bars. Then I got a Garmin. I wonder if I still have that. It was similar to the string that is on my Garmin.
