I appreciate that man. My running career was full of disappointment and underachievement. Just goes to show that VO2 Max is far from everything. Now, I’m fat and old and just wish I’d done things differently having spent the tail end of my 20s drinking and smoking.maquisard wrote:Being able to run a 4m10s mile makes you elite to me, that is incredibly impressive!
I raced at a 1st cat club level in my 20's. i think my VO2 Max would have been in the 60s and my FTP was 4.6 W/Kg on the best days.
Here in the NYC area, I’m constantly impressed by the numbers some guys put up. A guy in my area did 500 watts for 20 minutes on a local mountain this year. It was posted on Strava, and his time over the segment backed up the wattage. He’s a big guy (like 90kgs), so it’s “only” 5.5 W/Kg, but that’s insane to me.

While most don’t, many good climbers and TTers likely do. Most TTers going to amateur nats are probably >72mL/kg/min.
that dude is a legit TT powerhouse. I remember when he weighed 260 lbs and could stay with the front group on the local group ride until we got to the bigger hills. Super impressive guy.LedZeppelin007 wrote: ↑Thu Oct 27, 2022 11:22 pmI appreciate that man. My running career was full of disappointment and underachievement. Now, I'm wondering who you guys are talking about.... I'm assuming the 20 min. local mountain is Bear Mountain.spud wrote: ↑Fri Oct 28, 2022 12:02 amthat dude is a legit TT powerhouse. That’s Brennan Wertz. He’s about 6’5” 195lbs and a U23 world champion in rowing…now a gravel privateer.
518 is an amazing number even at 195!!!!TobinHatesYou wrote: ↑Fri Oct 28, 2022 2:56 pmLedZeppelin007 wrote: ↑Fri Oct 28, 2022 2:05 pm518 is insane. I finally hit 330 this year and was feeling great about that lol.

How are Cat 1 racers and message board posters finding out their VO2 max? I'm curious what mine is now and was in my 20s, but I've never been invited to the Olympic Training Center to find out.maquisard wrote: ↑Thu Oct 27, 2022 4:17 pmEven good 1st cat racers don't have a VO2Max of 72, such a value is elite level!LedZeppelin007 wrote: ↑Thu Oct 27, 2022 3:37 pm72 is high, but about what good Cat 1 racers are at here.
