She’s blaming the tire for blowing off, but that’s clearly not what happened. The tire blew off after the bike hit the curb.
The chain does look to be in the small ring based on the distance from the BB. Best guess is she accidentally gripped both basebar eTap “clics” and performed a front shift.

Agree, she seems to have loaded the left pedal when there was no resistance due to the chain having gone into the small ring. As a result she became unbalanced and fell to the left.
Terrible to see someone go out of a race like that. Especially having travelled so far to compete and being a favourite.

From that photo it looks like she unclipped? Wouldn’t surprise me because her position on the bike is very unstable.
Could be, I once fell off in pretty much the same way when a Look Keo axle broke. Zero warning and I instantly found myself on the road after getting up out of the saddle on a hill.
Actually on re-watching the footage the pedal is still attached to the crank after the crash and not to her shoe.

Quite possibly, but like the tyre that's an effect, not the cause.robbosmans wrote: ↑Wed Sep 21, 2022 11:28 amFrom that photo it looks like she unclipped? Wouldn’t surprise me because her position on the bike is very unstable.
It looked like she was starting in her largest cog outback. Not sure how the chainline are on those Canyons but it's not unreasonable to think instant torque in that combo with a TT sized ring could throw the chain off starting the Series of Unfortunate Events. Edit// one does have to wonder if someone (sans Movistar staff) unaware of likely hookless wheels inflated them beyond the normal.
Just ride ..

To clarify, the tire was the least of the problems, as she broke her front wheel in the crash:spdntrxi wrote: ↑Wed Sep 21, 2022 2:24 pmTire comes off due to the barrier.. end of story.itsacarr wrote: ↑Wed Sep 21, 2022 2:05 pmIt looked like she was starting in her largest cog outback. She didn’t unclip. The shiny thing is the rear brake caliper. Her left foot is at the top of the pedal stroke and it’s blending in with van Dijk’s foot, creating an optical illusion.

Switzerland's win in the mixed TTT relay gave Bisegger 100 UCI points and moved EF up to 15th place in the relegation battle. Matthews picked up a few points too from Australia's bronze and could save his team from relegation by wining the road race which awards a very material 600 points.
