Merlin Cycles not accepting Amex

Hi all, I'm looking to make a purchase with Merlins, it appears they've stopped accepting Amex payment. Does anyone know the reason for this about-face?

Have you tried to pay with amex via paypal? Merlin accept paypal

Thanks, that's a great solution! I'm curious how this affects their bottom line, wouldn't they have to pay fees to both Paypal and Amex for the transaction?

With PayPal, shop pays PayPal fees only (no AMEX fees):
amex debit/credit (paypal payment) 2.9% + $0.30

Without PayPal, shop pays AMEX fees only:
amex credit (online payment) 2.89% + $0.15 + 1.8%
amex debit (online payment) 2.89% + $0.15 + 0.3%
amex (offline payment) 2.89% + $0.15
