I had the usual's like a Silca & then a Specialized Air Force that lasted decades..

But a few months back I bought this LifeLine from CRC for $59 with free DHL express shipping to USA (if you spend $99 so I bought some other little things too)

LifeLine Professional Track Pump
https://www.chainreactioncycles.com/us/ ... prod155370

I bought the polished one & it is quite nice with wood handle
& a very good head/chuck that has a air release to fine tune pressure etc
Has a long stroke so fill fast & easy to read gauge

So far very happy with it (google LifeLine Professional Track Pump for better pic of valve & head)

My LEZYNE CNC Drive has been great.
Even the cheaper steel drive model is a good pump. For the lower pressure tyres (MTB, gravel) the models with the digital gauge are nice. Actually, their gravel pumps could be used also for the road, the max pressure is almost 7 bars.

The Blackburn Piston 4 has worked well for me and is under 100.

Assuming presta-only, any cheap pump matching your desired pressure/volume tradeoff that fits into the remaining budget after subtracting the funds required for a Hirame pump head upgrade. It is that good. (the Silca imitation is probably just as good, improved even in some minor details, but it's not cheaper at all)

If/when the pump eventually breaks (as cheap pumps have been known to do), you can still transplant the head to an "eternity pump" like the Rennkompressor or whatever is the default quality pump in your region/market. I'd look for something with a wooden handle, or at least with a metal core, as plastics will eventually get brittle/creaky/scary.

For someone completely new to the game, it would probably be worthwhile to wait a year or two with the head upgrade, so that they don't miss out on the joy of how just much better that head is.

That Hirame is one of those cycling gadgets that you wish you bought 20 years ago. I bought one last year to replace my Silca chuck after getting sick of tired of gaskets wearing out and the chuck blowing off.

I agree with others concerning the Lezyne CNC or for less money the Steel, I don't see a need to buy into a digital PSI read out though, just because it's digital doesn't mean it's spot on, it works on the same principle as the gauge style and thus subject to the same imperfections, but Lezyne has always been really close with their readouts.

I have a Birzman MAHAA or some such name, I not impressed with it's performance despite that it got a 5 star rating, it won't even do Schrader valves even though it's suppose to, and it pops off on Presta valves a lot, so stay clear of that brand, I did complain to Birzman and they sent a new head but about 6 months later the same crap started happening again, so they sent another, it too failed just barely still in warranty so they sent another one claiming it was improved version, nope though it did last about 3 years before the same crap started happening again. So I have to buy another one sometime this year and will probably get a Lezyne since their mini pumps work better than any other mini pump I've ever used so I trust that brand, I also trust Topeak, but it's a toss up between those two brands. The stupid thing about Topeak is they now sell AERO shaped floor pumps? what the hell for? so I can throw it further? Cycling industry has gone nuts trying to cough up high tech words to sell their crap.

The Lifeline Professional looks promising but it only got 4 stars so I don't think I will be going that route.
