While not really comparable to many of the recent posts, but tis the best we can do while riding in the foot hills leading into the Texas hill country northwest of Houston. Besides, how often do you see trail riders/wagon trains in the alps or climbing up Box Hill.

GBDURO is a crazy hard, mainly off-road version of LEJoG which is promoted by Racing Collective as an annual race. Anisa Aubin competed in 2020, a year when the race rules were even more stringent than they already were: when they said 'unsupported' they really meant it. Anisa's a club-mate of mine and, one year on, I met up with Anisa to get the inside story on her epic journey in which she overcame obstacles that defeated many experienced ultra-endurance adventurers. It's a good story. Note: this is a 20-minute watch.

Parked the car today in Esplechin after a 1 1/2 hour drive from home. Took the bikes out of the car and then crossed the border from Belgium to France. The last 60 km of Paris-Roubaix driven with my son. Some sections were still greasy from last week - most were good to ride. After 80 km we arrived in Roubaix at the velodrome and did a few laps there. Then it was another 18 km back to the car incl. an extra cobblestone sector of 1 km.

We have done the following misery.

13. Orchies (60.2km) 1,700m – ***
12. Auchy à Bersée (54.1 km) 2,700m – ****
11. Mons-en-Pévèle (48.6 km) 3,000m – *****
10. Mérignies à Avelin (42.6 km) 700m – **
9. Pont-Thibault à Ennevelin (39.2 km) 1.400m – ***
8. Templeuve (L'Épinette) (33.8km) 200m – *
8. Templeuve (Moulin-de-Vertain) (33.3km) 500m – **
7. Cysoing à Bourghelles (26.9 km) 1.300m – ***
6. Bourghelles à Wannehain (24.4 km) 1,100m – ***
5. Camphin-en-Pévèle (19,9 km) 1,800m – ****
4. Carrefour de l'Arbre (17.2 km) 2,100m – *****
3. Gruson (14.9km) 1,100m – **
2. Willems à Hem (8.2 km) 1.400m – ***
1. Roubaix (Espace Charles Crupelandt) (1.4km) 300m – *

Cobblestones are grueling, we agreed on that. Material was in order (no punctures or breakdown). My son on the Batavus Vacansoleil teambike with 25/28mm Schwalbe, and I was on the Holdsworth with Mavic cpx33 with 28mm Schwalbe One tires.

On the way back we drove the to Dranken Geers (very nice big store) in Oostakker. Crate filled with delicious Belgium specialty beers. So in one day from Hell to Heaven. 😜

Ah very cool. I am confused about access, but bear in mind my experiences are extremely dated having not ridden there since 1984. In the 0's I was fortunate to be able to embark on several extended racing forways to the UK and Europe. Last time I was there, we were told that other than heavy agricultural equipment from the area farms, many of the cobbled roads were normally closed to through traffic as much of the fames sections were on private lands. So has this changed? I seem to recall reading that some of the roads are now considerd/classified as national parks, so are the cobbles open to the public for certain times of the year or can cyclists ride on them at anytime?

A great week of sun and a bit (read a lot!!) of climbing in Gran Canaria.
Hired a Tarmac SL6 disc , rode it somewhat.

Looking back at where i should have gone into the VOTT. This road up to Acusa Verde/ Tamadaba / Artenara was definitely not an easy option. Thank f*** for petrol stations is all i can say :)

Flat (as you get here) ride to Ayagueres + Monte Leon

Overlooking Serenity from Prese De Las Ninas

Up the GC604 (the "forgotten road" from El Tablero. Paved halfway, then gravel into the forests. Awesome views and much quieter than Fataga etc to get up to Ayacata.

Overlooking Las Palmas de Gran Canaria from somewhere near Caldera de Los Marteles/ Picos los Nieves on the GC130. A climb that went on forever from the coast, but the views , and ultimately the "descent" all the way back to Playa Del Ingles via Ayacata, San Bartolome and Fataga, are what dreams are made of.

I was recently in Italy/Lombardy, and wanted to point out passo Vivione as particularly nice. The road was closed to motorized traffic for the season (happens mid-October apparently). Good thing, as it is a one lane road, which I had to myself. Nice fall colors https://photos.app.goo.gl/qMKSBXujY8W4t8TK6

Another famous cycling road in Lombardy: from Anfo on lake Idro ride uphill and West, to Breno. About a dozen passes along the way, partly unpaved. I saw only one group of motorbikes in several hours, and no cars. https://photos.app.goo.gl/uUTXwg8N6ifSaDtw7
