Well, Pog was pooped, he'd made his big effort on the steep climb and it didn't stick, after that he was just clinging on.

Shouldn't maqui be hating on an Ineos rider winning gold, is he losing his touch? It's a long season, maybe this is just one race too far for him.

McNulty made the same effort, right? Then he went again and Carapaz joined him. I’m just glad Pogacar is human after all. Today’s heroes were Carapaz, Wout, McNulty, GVA and Tratnik.

Did Bettiol have cramps or a mechanical?

Saw him drop out of the group with 15 km left but I didn't have sound on while cooking.

Just saw him with the left leg out of the pedals.

Cramps.

Italian selection made by Cassani didn't make much sense as he decided to bring Nibali by citing "superior experience" and many other guys who didn't take part at the TdF and it seems in today race that most of guys at the front came out of Tour.

What happened to Spain?
Both Valverde and Fraile looked like having empty legs all of a sudden.

Thanks Micky..

The Italian team didn't ride to any sense regardless of the choice of Nibali... He was puling for no good reason.

I'm just happy not having to see Valverde and his bs pulls since he was dropped on the Fuji climb.

First, Pog was very active on the climb and subsequent attacks. He rode his heart out.
Second, Wout edged the sprint for silver.

Pogacar was active until McNulty and Carapaz got away. After that he rode negatively, only covering attacks, not contributing much to the chase effort. That chase was 90% Wout and Pogacar even dangled precariously on the wrong side of a temporary split at some point.

Reminder that McNulty was in the three-man break with Pogacar and Woods, then again with Carapaz. So a combination of Pog not really having it and then racing defensively as a result.
Don't forget that McNulty is a UAE rider and did a lot or work for Pogacar at the Tour. He was probably trying to help him a bit.

What happened to Roglic? He was right up there then seemed to completely disappear.

In an interview after the race it was said that Roglič did not feel well from the start of the race (health related issues).
He said he could not keep up with the guys at the end.

Could be.....
I remember seeing this kind of inter team rather than country help in the Olympics in years past

Remco said he let go on the last climb to save his legs.

I don’t know about Ganna, normaly I would say yes but his preparation was a bit weird so I say WVA or Remco

The only problem with this is that if Pinarello win both gold medals their celebratory colour schemes will make Trump's living room look like a model of tasteful restraint

Chris Horner does pretty neat tactics analyses on YouTube. I liked his review of the road race.

Women's RR in an interesting position: the early suicide break of three still has over 5 minutes lead with less than 40km left to go. Oops.
