Hey guys, I'm looking for help to covert my bike bag, a scicon aerocomfort 2.0 which is not thru axle ready, to thru axle from its QR mounts. For the front I have already found mounts like Thule that attach to the front QR and connect it to a thru axle ready mount, but I can't find a solution for the rear. (My rear axle is 12x142 thru axle) Please let me know if you know any solutions to convert the QR mount to thru axle on the rear mount, thanks a lot, Archie

Can you provide a link to the Thule solution for the front? I have the same problem with mine (thankfully, I have QR in the back for my gravel bike).

I just ordered it and haven't tested it yet but just ordered the front metal part replacement from the 3.0. Red "Boomerang" and the one to the left for the rear. I ordered it as well. Going to drill through the rear metal part on the current bag and attach that to the 2.0

https://www.biketravelbags.com/product- ... ent-parts/

Looks like it should fit the 2.0

Just to dig up an old thread.. hoping I can make my 2.0 bag work with my thru axle road bike.

Found this and trying to work out if it would do the job:

https://www.sigmasports.com/item/Elite/ ... iners/NNTI

Otherwise whether the red parts from the 3.0 mentioned above can actually be retrofitted to the 2.0

Anyone?

Hi, I have successfully converted the Aerocomfort 2.0 to thru axle using some 3d printed adapters :D
I had a hunch about this design I found - and yeah it works..

Why pay ~ €500-ish for the Aerocomfort 3.0 when you can upgrade to "Aerocomfort 2.9 Plus" for a fraction of that !

Additional items needed:
* Couple of Jubilee clips / Hose clips - to secure Front TA Adaptor
* Zip tie - additional securing for above
* Rear QR Skewer for Fat bike (i.e. for a 170mm hub as opposed to the standard 135mm hub) - so these are longer than standard
Got one these here --> https://store.hedcycling.com/hed-fat-bi ... a492262878
Cost about €20 and although sent from USA to Ireland - was shipped DHL express free and arrived in 4 days

Front Axle
Can use your standard Front Thru Axle to secure front forks through the Front TA Adaptor, which is clamped down with Jubilee Clips

It also leverages against the Scicon metal bar for additional security / stability

Rear Axle
Need the longer Fatbike QR skewer to secure the rear in conjunction with the adapters which allow
the rear dropouts to sit flush on the rear axle in the bag.
Bonus here also is that you can attach the rear derailleur protector
Whereas with the Aerocomfort 3.0 you can't if you have a thru axle bike - a bonkers oversight really.
Anyway I plan on removing my RD mech when I'm travelling next just for extra piece of mind,
as the rear pulley wheel is a bit exposed even with the RD protector on

Additional Protection
Also created some additional protection for the STI Shifters using a plastic poster tube
e.g. https://store.evansartsupplies.ie/produ ... rage-Tube/
and using a small hacksaw to shape and fit under the hoods with velcro strips to keep in place
This provides decent side and (a bit of) front protection to the levers.
Might add circular covers using the ends of the tube to the sides also for "aesthetics" and additional protection.
Fits in bag no probs at all- no tightness around zips with my S-Works Tarmac 52
Since this is Weight Weenies - the tubing is 115g
The foam padding is so light it's hardly even worth weighing

Also created additional padding for everything using pipe insulation foam.
Labelled each one and threaded velcro strips through them (rather than tape) so I can re-use them easily.
Might seem like overkill but not really if you're stuffing other stuff into the case like track pumps etc.

Further upgrades
I also upgraded the Caster (aka Castor) wheels on it as the stock aren't very good.
One of mine fell off after first trip - I've seen multiple reports of this from others also
Got 4 new Heavy duty ones on Amazon - two have brakes on them too which is useful
e.g. these - > https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B08 ... UTF8&psc=1
They do the job nicely, but are a bit lower profile than the stock ones.
I might change these sometime for ones with rubber knobbly wheels, but will see how I get on with them in practice.

I'll stick up a vid on YouTube soon re: whole process if anyone is interested
But I'm happy to report it all works very well and can help out anyone wanting to do similar :)

Hi - I drilled the end caps out of the existing QR tubes on mine and the thru axles fit thru and work perfectly. Cost 5 min and $0.

Nice idea :
I wanted mine to be dual compatible and still work with an older QR axle bike though - hence retaining the original bits

Couple of questions on that though :
How do you get the dropouts to sit on the black support frame ?
i.e. wouldn't they be too short for bike to sit on if you drilled QR ends off
=> if I'm visualing correctly - the only support (laterally at least) would be the Thru Axle skewers themselves when inserted ?

Yes the thru axles are the only support which is fine. Still works ok with QRs too you just clamp them down.

Sorry, one more point...the rear axle housing of the bag is of course too short for a 142mm spaced disc bike (being for a 130mm QR) but it doesn't matter at all, works great

Would you mind sharing a picture of the final product? What bit did you use to drill?

...and what sort of drill ?
I presume the drill didn't cost $0 ;)
Would be interesting to see some pix of your solution sometime alright - ( whenever you're next taking your bike on a trip I guess )

Sorry to drag this thread back to life, but am in the position to require this, as both my roadies are now 12mm TA, and planning a trip soon.

Re the link to the 3D printed parts, where can they actually be puyrchased (I don't have a printer) ? Or is iot just a matter of downloading the files and themn finding someone local to print them ?

And cheers for the gallery, much appreciated !

I also want to do this. Was it successfull? does the front boomerang just slide in. Did you bolt the back in place?

John: would you be interested in making a set of your TA converters and selling them?
