It is this segment, correct?

Schollbrunn Climb

It looks like you're at 8:23 and KOM time is 7:09... I'm not positive when it clicks off for me, I haven't paid close enough attention to be sure. I'm only aware that it seems to do it onlong segments, on occasions when I'm far off the goal time. I was using PR in the earlier description because in my instance, my PR was also the KOM at the time, although I've since lost that KOM. I'm definitely gonna flag some segments and pay attention. It is also quite possible that there might be a number of conditions that all have to be met for it to drop, or maybe several, but any single one will do it as well.
Was wondering who just followed me on Strava :)

There are a few overlapping segments. The Schollbrunn one is contained in this one where I'm 6th, but 2 minutes behind KOM Markuskapelle - Rohrbrunn Stretch
The other climbs are Geishöhe 4 Climb (improved by 2:41, but 3:48 slower than KOM) and Mil35 Climb (improved by 36s, behind KOM by 1:10)

However, I've seen this happen on stretches where I'm close to the KOM. This one, Lindelbacher Strasse Climb, is 1.5km, my time was 4:08, 28s behind KOM. The area circled in red is a section that goes through an area with trees, and you can see the GPS tracking goes to crap there. Everything else is open, and the tracking is spot on.

Yup, that was me that just follwed you on Strava... cool that you moved there from the US, what spurred that on? Family? Work? I did a summer semester in college in Munich and it was beauitful. I wasn't into cycling at all back then and I've often thought about how much better that time could've been if I was.

Back tot he question at hand, though... have you had the segment tracking drop off on all of those segments? I definitely see what you mean that tracking is not as accurate there and it is probably an issue with the tree cover, but it doesn't seem like that would be a far enough deviation form the road... maybe it is though. I am definitely anxious to do some experimenting and see if we can figure out a reason, but the weather has been crap during the oppurtunities that I've had to get outside. I also have to check which segments I have starred. I'm not a 'climber' more of a TT specialist, so the segments I normally track are longer and flatter... some have climbing, but they usually also have descending and I know at some point Strava changed live-tracking so that it wouldn't work if descending was above a certain percentage, due to safety. Because of that, I kind of stopped using that feature or paying much attantion to it.

My wife is German, and I'm a mutt, half German, half American. We always said we would raise our kids in Germany, so that they get exposed to different cultures and grow up multilingual, and since they were almost 5 and almost 7, it was the right time. There is more opportunity for little freedoms as a kid here - it starts with walking to school, walking into town, going to the bakery or store by yourself, etc, so kids learn independence at a young age and gradually. Then you have things like active shooter drills at the preschool back in Atlanta, not something you have here. My wife and I both missed life here, too, so we're happier as well. The area we moved to is awesome for cycling, too, which I've gotten back into full tilt.

Yup, the segment tracking dropped in those segments, annoying when you're trying to PR them. I might end up doing a factory reset on the Elemnt to see if it helps anything. Now that I'm thinking about it... my friend (with the Bolt) had a speed sensor on the front wheel of his old bike, and his new SuperSix EVO has a similar built-in speed sensor, I wonder if that makes the difference. I'm going to see if I can find one used and give it a try.

Does the Elemnt have any GPS options to turn on/off? My Garmin Edge can use US GPS or GLONASS. Turning on both gives the best performance.

I've looked around and searched online, but haven't found any settings, information is a bit scarce in general regarding the technical capabilities. I wish there were a diagnostic screen/mode or anything like that. I like the simplicity, but if it gets in the way of troubleshooting, it's annoying.

That makes total sense. My kids are 9 and 6 and it would be nice if they could enjoy the same freedoms that I did as a kid, but that's not life in the US anymore. I'd love to make a move like you did, but being just a block from my mom is so nice and convenient and means she is in the kid's lives a lot more than if we were far away. She enjoys it and they enjoy it.

I have a speed sensor on all of my bikes. I'm sure it must make a difference, but to what extent, not sure.
