I'm looking around at a few helmet options and find the Hydrogen White offering from POC to be pretty stunning (er, polarizing, as with POC in general). I do question how well a completely white helmet (sans straps) can hold up over time though - so figured I'd see if anyone on the forum owns something in this color and can speak to how difficult (or not) it is to keep clean?

Thanks!

I've owned a few variatons of POC helmets, all with varying degrees of white. I've found that having a white shell and foam is fine as long as you clean them regularly. I usually use some antiseptic wipes every week or so.

The issue is the straps - when I've had white versions they get very dirty and there has been no real way to keep them clean. I've used varying types of bleach to try, but nothing ever gets them back to what they are like when new. I won't buy white straps anymore - I'm currently on the Ventral Air Spin in Hydrogen White Raceday:

Mine still looks like new! (Octal in Hydrogen white) I just wipe the shell down with a damp cloth after each ride and buff it dry with a micro fibre cloth.

Hydrogen White Ventral Air rider here. Don't worry about the grey straps. I bring them to shower after every ride and it's good so far.

I have been rotating 2-3 helmets including the POC, which joined the rank from September 2019. Not sure how many hours but whenever it's more than warm outside you'd see me with the POC.

I had the white a few years back. It holds up fine. Generally it's their other colors that fade over time from sun/uv exposure.

Had the white Octal for almost 3 years and it has held up fine, I've liked it a lot. I liked it enough to get the Ventral Air and I like it even better, fit seems a little better and the Ventral Air seems to interfer less with sunglasses than the Octal.

I have a shiny (hydrogen?) white Octal with white (or rather light grey) straps. It's on it's third season now. Holds up fine, it might be because I wash it after every ride. Funny thing I wash my other cycling clothes after every ride too.

Hello can anyone speak about matte finish of poc helmets? I had a ventral air spin in uranium black raceday (glossy black) and it scratched quite easily...are matte colours more or less scratch resistant?????? Thanks a lot

I have a matte black Ventral that I got for testing when it was released three years ago. No scratches, but it needs a fair amount of TLC to stay really matte.

I also have a white Ventral Air Spin Raceday bought last spring. No scratches. Maybe I’m kind with my helmets?

What do u mean with "tender loving care to stay really matte"??? What does happen if I'm not as kind as u are to the matte finish? Thanks a lot

I had a Ventral in oxolane (matte) grey and found it quite resistant to scratching. I replaced it after a crash where it hit and slid along the road briefly, but the finish still looked fine - no scratching or scuffing. Haven't had any issues with scratches with its matte hydrogen white replacement either.
