2020 on the road today.

Rode with some friends yesterday to a local off-road area, it's forested and sandy and much used by MTB types. We did some of the singletrack trails which was demanding but fun. I'm really not used to singletrack.

Great stuff!
Did some offroading ourselves, on Sunday, on the Nickey Line on the edge of the Chilterns. Pre-warned, I put some Roubaix 25/28 tyres on the Gios - not ideal, but I managed!

Going into the muddy Chilterns on 25/28s was brave.

Always on the non-driveside, pedal upwards and on soft surface to avoid any scratches.

Is that an active railroad track? I'm not a mechanical engineer, but I'm not sure how well things would work out if a train traversed that section of track.
BTW, I like the "honesty"of the pictures with the bike on the grass. How many people carry a bike stand to use for pictures, and I'm not a big fan of airbrushing or photoshopping bike stands out or photoshopping in a bike standing on its own.

Thanks. I already carry a small flexible tripod and a compact camera, that's enough. no need to carry a bike stand.HammerTime2 wrote: ↑Wed Oct 21, 2020 12:31 amIs that an active railroad track? The picture has been taken on the Vennbahn, the former railroad line L48, a 120km railroad line that was closed in 1990 and that has been transformed into a cycling track.
It's a very nice and beautiful cycling route through 3 countries (Luxembourg, Belgium and Germany) and some national parks (National Park High Fens) and has received a lot of awards (European Cycling Route of the Year 2014, 4 star award on the 2019 International Tourism Exchange in Berlin,...). It's also very close to Belgian Ardennes (my route of last weekend went also though the Ardennes). There's more info and pictures on the website (in English).
Some pieces of track are left but out of service. As is the signalling cabin on the picture.
A few km of railway track are in use for railroad bikes.
Although it was quite fresh (4°C) and cloudy last weekend, it's aways a pleasure to ride this region.
The full route is on Strava.
