Bike box for new Venge (or similar new generation bikes)
Moderators: robbosmans, Moderator Team
What’s the best bike box available for the new generation of bikes with disc brakes, internal cable routing, integrated handlebar etc and tubeless tyres with sealant?
I used (rented) a Bike Box Alan and managed to squeeze in a Venge size 54 without deflating the tyres (I have sealant, kept them at 60PSI which is plenty safe for air travel), but it was A LOT of work.
Had to:
Remove rotors
Remove RD
Remove chain
Remove pedals
Remove seatpost
Undo handlebar and turn it alongside top tube
Use A LOT of bubble wrap and foam pipes.
Took me a good 4 hours to pack, and 4 hours to assemble.
Money is no objection, surely there must be an easier box for the latest generation of bikes?
Thanks for reading.
In fairness the BBA felt very sturdy and the bike arrived fine, but it has been an exhausting process.

I bring my bike in a Scicon AeroComfort 3 bag. Yes, it is a soft bag, but so far my bikes have survived just fine and I don't have the storage space for a hard case. Not having to remove the bars or seatpost is super convenient though I do remove the rear derailleur and disc rotors.
For the last 10 years I used LifeLine EVA Bike Pod for my training and racing in Europe.
I can pack my mtb 27.5" and roadie.
Whole process takes less than 1h and about 30min for assemble.

There’s a new Bike Box Alan hard case which allows you to keep the handlebars attached, but gains corresponding width.

I used a friends Topeak Pakgo-X for my S5D and it's the best bike box on the market by MIIIIIIILES!
Sold my BBA to buy one after using my mates.

I agree, the old BBA is a PITA for the latest aero bikes with tubeless and discs, but their latest upgraded bike box looks the business!
The issue is always the same. Sure it's possible to get a huge box that will allow you to travel with a more intact bike but just don't expect it to fit in any regular size taxi.
And you should be able to do the packing job above in about 1 hour with some practice.

Wow, looks like a brilliant box. I'd go for that.
I'd probably wrap it though as I'd hate to see the metal scuffed ahah.
Jeeez, this is huge bike box.
You have to rent a van to transport that box from the airport then

The Topeak is a few cm smaller than the Buxum, but both actually take up less space than the awkwardly shaped BBA. And they are considerably easier to store due to their uniformed shape.
Also, both wheel much better than a BBA, the Topeak wheels as good as any Samsonite suitcase.
