Can you elaborate more? 62 linear inches in total? No more oversize bag fee of $150?

Standard checked bag fees of your destination apply up to 50 lbs / 23 kgs and 126 in / 320 cm (length + width + height) or $150 fee applies from 51 lbs / 23 kgs to 70 lbs / 32 kgs.
So...
1. AA no longer charges a a bike fee greater than your normal baggage fee for your flight.
2. Most cases are under 126 inches and thus so long as you are under the 50 pound weight limit, you are fine.
3. If your ticket includes a baggage allowance, or if your credit card, frequent flyer status, etc. includes bags, then the bike is free in place of an allowed bag.
Great news. I hope United matches.

Since bikes are considered oversized, all airlines instituted a flat fee. 62in counts for all dimensions. Outside of having "status", fees work thusly:
First=$30
Second =$40
Third=$150
Fourth/fifth=$200
You're allowed two carry-on's(two roller boards usually aren't allowed aside from a high-end camera bag), medical devices(unlimited)and a food bag.

Actually, no....
The whole point of the AA change is the make it that bikes are NOT oversized, and rather count as a normal bag so long as the dimensions of the bike bag are less than 126 inches/320cm linear and under 50 pounds/23 kilos.
This is great news for cylclists.

Reading the AA policy, they deny liability for "fragile items" for domestic flights. As such, under their policy, there would be no additional charge for bikes in soft-sided cases, but they would deny liability for damage.

What we cover
If your checked bag is lost, damaged or delayed, we will pay the actual value of the losses up to $3,500 (or up to $5,000 if you declare excess value).
A good rule of thumb is never to check anything you can't live without. If it's irreplaceable, sentimental or you depend on it for your well-being, keep it on you or leave it at home.
What we don't cover
We don't cover loss or damage to:*
Antiques or artifacts
Artwork
Books or documents
China or silverware
Computers, software or other electronics
Fragile items
Furs
Heirlooms
Jewelry
Keys
Liquids
Medication
Money
Orthotics or surgical supports
Perishable items
Photographic, video or optical equipment
Precious metals or stones
Samples
Securities or negotiable papers
Time pieces
Unique, irreplaceable or similar valuable items

Great news, hopefully the other airlines follow suit. This would save me from having to buy an S&S frameset....
or look at the cases from Orucase (www.orucase.com). I have yet to be charged a fee with mine.
Maybe now, but it wasn't before.halcyongolf wrote: ↑Mon May 27, 2019 2:58 amActually, no....
