Phinney retiring. Best thing for him I think, time to move onto something motivational.

Good for him.

Speculation on The Cycling Podcast that maybe a team like Lotto NL Jumbo would leave a guy like Groenewegen at home with so few sprint opportunties. With the reduced roster size at the Tour, they will need all the GC help they can get.

Interesting that both Joe D and Aru are on UAE next year, both had illiac surgies as well.

Checking their roster tho- what a weird team: https://www.procyclingstats.com/team/ua ... rates-2020

You have Gaviria and Kristoff there, but not the most massive train talent. And a bunch of randoms that have some stages between them and of course Pogacar, but nothing that stands out as a team.
Don't take me too seriously. The only person that doesn't hate Froome.

Honestly, I feel that Bahrain and UAE are just taking"names" .

I feel sorry for Pocagar with no help (I dont really see Aru working for anyone). He benefitted from being a "new kid on the block" to now a GC contender. He's gonna get marked more and more. UAE is a team of opportunists like Conti,Ullissi and Costa. They have to get more climbing talent and maybe abandon that sprint train...but alas, the transfer window is closed if I'm correct ( or am I wrong?)

Some budding Caja Rural or Androni climber or a veteran climbing domestique wouldve been nice.

UAE-Emirates is still run by the Lampre management and they seem to way more competent than the shitshow at Bahrain-Merida. From the outside looking in anyway.

Looks pretty massive to me if they can make them work well together :
Richeze, Molano, Philipsen, Kristoff, Gaviria, also Bystrom and the youngsters like Bjerg, the Oliveira twins, ...

Same for the climbers, maybe they lack some middle man like Rowes or Castroviejo

This one is tailormade for the non-tt climbers like Bardet, Pinot, Allaphilipe and maybe even Barguil.
didnt that dude win a tt stage this year and get dropped during climbs where the pure climbers pulled away from him and only manage catch up on descents...
Wierd to call JA a climber IMO.

And we should remember his greatest legacy - re-introducing the idea of lace up cycling shoes. It was his wish for Giro to make a shoe that mimicked some Nike football boots he wore as a child in Italy that led to Giro developing the Empire lace up shoe, an idea that has been copied by a few other brands in the ensuing years.

The truth is that the company that re-introduced lace up shoes was Vittoria in late 2000s with their 1976 shoes:

Of course, Giro's marketing is more powerful so everyone things that Giro was the first with their Empire...

who said it's gotta be the hubbie who's pursuing his own career while a woman takes care of everything else around? I sincerely hope TP will be there for her, Kasia has so much potential, and if she can count on Taylor's support and love, it's only gonna boost her up

It would be more accurate to say that Vittoria reintroduced lace-ups and Giro repopularized them.

Flat TTer won't be happy too. Martin, Campenaerts, Küng ... why would they want to come beside helping the leader, they're is no "reward" waiting for their race at the end
Don't know about the others but Martin has been close to lantern rouge in many recent tours (at least one of the German commentators said so during this year's tour) so he probably won't mind.
