Got hit with this question tonight and didn’t really know what to say. Slightly different generations but not so far apart that they should be difficult to compare data wise. Anyone got an idea how these two stack up?

Hard to say. Dumoulin focused on the gc last couple of years so he lost a bit of is TT skills. However I think if Tom focused on the TT he would be on a other world.

But Wiggo is also superb on the track and road TT. But still dumo kills it.

Dumoulin only has one major road championship win to Wiggo's two, but he's already racked up a lot more Grand Tour ITT stage wins. I think TD edges it, and if he gets another WC or wins in Tokyo then he'd have a clearly better palmares in terms of 'big' TTs.

(Rohan Dennis refocussed on TTs is going to take some beating though!)

Very evenly matched. Big Tom hasn't quite had a season like Wiggo in 2012 when he was basically unbeatable against the clock. In the 2016 Tour Tom lost the hilly TT to Froome despite not going for GC and lost the Giro 2017 final TT to Van Emden. But Tom has been a bit more consistent. Wiggo obviously lost some motivation after Froome's rise.

The comparison is a nice one because both are also the most stylish TTers of the last decade when it comes to souplesse.

Dumoulin can rack up the World Championships in the next few years with only Dennis being able to challenge him but let's not forget that Wiggins was going up against Tony Martin (at the height of his powers) and Cancellara every year, some of the best TTers ever. Dumoulin is obviously the better climber (and GC rider) but at the height of his career, Wiggins was more dangerous in the TT.

Yeh, I'd agree. Tom doesn't look as natural on a TT bike as Wiggo did. Probably all those years of track riding.
