Riding and wedding ring

Never worn my ring since almost losing it on a boat in Venice during my honeymoon. ..

Funnily enough, my father lost his wedding ring in the same place so I have never seen him wear one. I told the wife that I won't be wearing one either before we got married as I have an aversion to any jewelry (and any other adornments on my body). She is cool with that.

Bee sting while riding, Ti ring. Forgot to take it off right away before the finger began to swell. As seen in the photo, it could only be removed with a special saw at the ER. I decided to take my chances and leave it on until the swelling went down. Since circulation was not cut off, I did not lose my finger, but it took a few months for the swelling to come down completely to remove the ring. Do not try this at home.

I have a plain tungsten ring with beveled sides , which is not expensive. I initially bought what I thought was the right size, then bought a half size down, then bought a half size down. The third ring fits with a precision fit, though requires a lot of effort to remove. The ring sits in a skinnier part of my finger. The meat before and after the ring along with the bevels keep it from ever catching on anything. I've never thought to need to remove it doing mechanical work or cycling.


Funny story... we had a work lunch at PF Chang (US Asian food chain). I ate quite a bit. I travelled for work, so immediately after lunch I drove to the airport in my rental car. I opened the door at the rcar return, and AAAAAAHHHHHHH. Felt like an electric shock/burn. I reached over and ripped my not-so-easy-to-remove ring off in one quick yank. Turned out I had too much salt. Wore the ring which was a full size larger for the next two weeks.

Want to still 'have it though' - so thinking about a silver / white gold chain? And attach it? Guess something like this?



Bit of a euro vibe haha, hidden as much as possible. Any suggestions? Silver best - antibacterial?

I've got that same ring design, but in Tunsten. Rode a snowmobile this weekend that cause do 10mph - 85mph (15kph - 140kph) faster than you can mash the throttle (Strava app said 1.5-1.8 sec FWIW ). Dang thing had 25mm bars. BRUTAL. Between the bumps, difficult steering, and the arm ripping acceleration, I had to remove my lined biking gloves because the liner was getting ripped up and put on work gloves. Anyway, that ring cut up my fully callused hand above and below it. Couldn't get it off.

I had a crash year ago with my TT bike and this is what happened to my ring... I looked worse my self. I still wear it anyway. Been married 25 years.

No issues with the rings while riding or working on my bike. I always wear gloves while riding.

The only time I remove them is when I wash my cars; also used to remove them while rock climbing.

I have a ti wedding band. I always wear it, never had an issue.

Hello all,

I wanted to ask what you guys do with your wedding ring while riding:

- keep it on? The simplest option, however googling for wedding ring avulsion gives me an uneasy feeling regarding this - in particular since in general I ride without gloves, I am terrified of the ring getting caught on something in the case of a crash.

- remove it? Seems a safer option. Especially when the ride starts at home it is easy to leave the ring on the bedside table or something. However when starting the ride from some hotel room or the car I am not sure where (except my finger) I should keep the ring while riding without risking to loose it.

What do you guys do, and why?

I was an Air Force mechanic for 21 years and couldn't have anything on our hands while doing maintenance(that's how I got out of wearing one).

Having one under a snug glove would feel uncomfortable.

I've only taken my ring off once in 30 years. Like most things, you get used to it over time.

I bought a carbon fiber/Ti ring for weight savings, lol. It’s really comfortable, even under my hockey gloves. Being a welder and metal fabricator, I never where a ring at work and often forget to wear one all together. My wife jokes we’re just roommates all the time.

I used to wear my ring and a watch all the time when I rode. Long story short, blah blah blah, crash, titanium plate, ten screws, blah blah blah. Don't wear either when riding anymore.

Always wearing mine while riding.
Gloves on for group rides (remember those?), down mountains and when it’s too cold without.
(I once was measured by Spesh to have half the pressure on my hands of what’s average when on the hoods.)
