Got an old China carbon saddle. The leather ripped so wanted to remove the padding to make it a all carbon saddle.

Is there an easier way to remove the padding? It seemed glued on.

Thanks

Wow. I'm just going to come out and say it... I don't think this is going to turn out the way you hope it will, though I wish you all the luck in the world in your endevor. I honestly can't think of any easy way to do it that doesn't potentially involve damaging the resin in the carbon. I'd say some sort of hot knife or scraper, or solvent, or just kill it with fire... but I don't know how well any of those would work in a non-destructive way. Some sort of plastic scraper maybe?

Peel back and edge and then see if something like acetone will melt the glue.

Yea I’m gonna try using acetone or goof off to see if it’ll come right off.

If it turns out good then great if not oh well lesson learned. ;)

Used Goof Off and finished it with acetone.

Took me about 20mins from peeling off and using the solutions.

Doesn't even look like the same saddle, and that massive transformation in 20 mins, well done to you. Looks great.

Thanks Kev... been swamped at work so haven’t had a chance to install it on my BMC. Will get it mounted tonight and hopefully to sneak out for a quick climb and see. I’ve got a boney arse so hopefully my bib shorts padding is enough.. haha

color me amazed, that came out really good. I was worried about the chemicals damaging the resin, but that turned out beautifully.

Yup I was worried at first as well but when I started removing it from the underside part I notice goof off was getting it done and not damaging anything.

So after I removed the padding on the top side, I started to let goof off does it magic.

Yup.. give it a try. Just be sure to remove the foam padding as much as possible by hand first.
