re the positions, as I remember it sitting on the top tube is the fastest position, but pedaling while there is counterproductive. Of course, if TJ is able to pedal 400+ watts in the drops, that's faster than the aero tuck up to a certain speed (circa 45 mph?). On the steep stuff, aero tuck is faster. At least, that's how I remember it.

tbh commented before I watched it in full. I found it actually pretty funny that the large majority of the riders did the sit-on-top-tube thing on the descent, then see Tejay on the drops with his elbows out smashing the pedals on the descent and crushing all of their times  . Makes me really wonder if that position is just a fad.. he didn't even do the Cancellara forearms on handlebar position either
I think its funny that you posted crticising his chances and the competition and hadn't even watched it.... to my eye, and reading that profile, it was a rolling course. I am sort of surprised that so many guys were trying to pedal a super tuck, but I'd guess its because they were actually just using their normal road bikes with standard gearing and that descent wasn't really steep enough to simply sit and coast, they were trying to be as aero as possible and still add in some pace via the pedals. I wouldn't be surprised if someone like Tejay, that semi-specialized in TT might have recognized this about the course proile and requested bigger gears on his bike... he might have been running a 55-42 on his road bike for the stage, allowing him to sit normal and really pedal some power into the descent.

Back when Froome made it famous, there was some testing of the various positions done and the sit on tube came out as the least aero, and one of the most unstable...

Edit: Found a newer velonews article that also links to the original one as well

Did you actually read the artcle you posted? sitting on the top tube was the fastest tested position.

the only evidence i need is what Cam Wurf said :

"Back in california in January Junior matty mohoric had taught me his much famed sitting on the top tube while pedaling technique. When he did it I realized I had to do a million watts to keep up with him going down hill so knew it was effective."

ONE MILLIONNNNNNNN!

No, it’s the 7th fastest according to the article. Did you actually read the article you claimed he hadn’t read?

Sitting on the top tube is fastest. Period.

The pedaling while sitting on top tube is shitty, tho. Better Sprint, sit down, sprint and so on. That's the fastest and also safe.

Chris Froome not really resting too much. Maybe giving a shot at worlds?

Hopefully Froome will be there, realistically it is one of his few (maybe only!) remaining chances to be World Champion. Any word on Dumoulin’s attendance?

From what I've read in the Dutch news he will attend all 3 disciplines (TTT, TT, RR) and is most likely to only ride the Deutschland Tour as preparation.
