No big surprise Thomas has put on weight. He's been on loads of TV programmes and even presented to the crowds at a big Welsh Rugby Union international; he's a huge fan. On one programme he confirmed he had hardly ridden the bike due to all these engagements and put on 5 to 6kg. He still looks slimmer to when he first rode the Tour.

The truth about his weight gain, according to the man himself is that he over enjoyed himself the past few weeks, while doing little to no riding, he actually just got back to serious training. I am curious to see how will he handle his weightloss from now on.

It's probably still not as bad as he used to be. I'm sure I remember an interview back when he was figuring out whether to try and be a GC guy or focus on classics that said he used to go out on the lash with his mates practically every day of the off season and have to almost start from scratch again weight wise at the first training camp each year. Maybe one of the biggest factors in becoming a genuine climber was that he stopped doing that.

Such sad news to hear that Paul Sherwen has died today. Only 62 and one of the voices of cycling for many of us I suspect.
