Just watched a GCN video of Geraint Thomas's TT bike. One of the things mentioned was that on his cranks the mechanics had taped over where the pedals screw into the crank arm in order to smooth airflow. Call me obsessed but I immediately went to my TT bike and did the same. Has anyone else anyone else got any similar obsessions?

Any idea why it's banned? Is it a non standard component issue because sticky tape is pretty commonly found and therefore standard. You know it's good when the UCI ban it. :P

In junior we used to tape underneath the pedals the "hole" in the look (pre Keo) or the shimano spd. I think one of twice we also taped underneath the seat... That never made the difference but that was fun :)

The UCI don't allow taping over any bolt holes etc on the bike, only use of specific manufacturer supplied plugs.

a great tip from a cyclespeed tours is to use silicone to fill in the gap between the rim and the tyre sort of like the strip mavic made for the cxr60.
Probably not uci legal since the mavic strip was banned too.

has anyone actually quantified the aero data in a windtunnel? I recognize a pretty specific figure was quoted (8 watts), but the sceptic in me wants to see a reputable mfg put out some data.

I always thought about the "ordinary" buckles on fixing straps of the so wonderful wind tunnel tested aero helmets.IMO these could improve in outer shell design as well as better (tighter fit). I wonder why they don't get rid of the whole fixing system and just have a piece of latex strap to hold the helmets in place?
