This is off topic, but 4 years ago when I first started to get into cycling I had a terrible holiday season, I was mostly alone in my apartment. Festive 500 made me busy during the last week and I pushed myself to complete it. I discovered new routes, met new friends and visited new places around the town I lived in. It also helped me to get more serious about cycling in the next year. I see nothing wrong with it and it's always fun to meet like minded people on the group rides. Who cares if it's organized by a clothing brand?maquisard wrote: ↑Sun Dec 24, 2017 7:37 pmAm I the only one that doesn't get theR Rapha Festive 500 - riding 500km over the holidays when you should be spending time with your family and loved ones because a pretentious over-priced clothing company tells you that you should...
A bit like everesting, equally stupid!

No one tells you that you should. They make an event and it's up to your own free will to decide if u join or not. Somehow people seem to forget free will these days, everything is somehow forced, because else they are scared to have missed out.maquisard wrote: ↑Sun Dec 24, 2017 7:37 pmAm I the only one that doesn't get theR Rapha Festive 500 - riding 500km over the holidays when you should be spending time with your family and loved ones because a pretentious over-priced clothing company tells you that you should...

Now as none of us are pro's (so why is it in here?) I'd say my opinion about it. I personally think it's a nice goal/motivation to get the first basemiles for next year in. But however I do have my own limits for this. If the weather stays as it currently is (wet with loads of wind in The Netherlands) I'm not gonna try it, not worth getting sick over and pushing my condition backwards. About spending time with family and loved ones. I'm single so maybe my life is different, but I don't see a need to hang with my family 24 hours for 2/3 days, we all got our own lives. We make dinner together on 1 day, maybe visit some family and that's it. Plenty of rest time to ride my bike around that.

WTF? I have ridden about 300 km in the last four days with my loved ones!! and will do a lot more in the coming days. Couldn't give a shit about Rapha etc., never even heard of the Festive 500. If you want to sit a home eating and drinking, knock yourself out pal. Sounds to me like you need to get your family into riding.maquisard wrote: ↑Sun Dec 24, 2017 7:37 pmAm I the only one that doesn't get theR Rapha Festive 500 - riding 500km over the holidays when you should be spending time with your family and loved ones because a pretentious over-priced clothing company tells you that you should...

Not overpriced, probably a little on the cheap side as everyone seems to be wearing it these days. If only Imperial Works still existed...maquisard wrote: ↑Sun Dec 24, 2017 7:37 pmAm I the only one that doesn't get theR Rapha Festive 500 - riding 500km over the holidays when you should be spending time with your family and loved ones because a pretentious over-priced clothing company tells you that you should...

Echoing other comments it’s a positive spin on the festive season. If you don’t agree with it go and do something else.

i did everesting this past year, and honestly, it was the challenge. Longest time i've ridden (with some breaks). There was the mental and physical challenge that I 'enjoyed' training for and I was able to everest with a friend. We had friends and family come out to ride/cheer us throughout the entire day and it was a cool experience, not stupid at all imho
rapha festive500 to each their own. There isn't a challenge in riding 500km for me, and yes during the holidays i prioritize family time, but some people wanna go out and ride alot. It's cool if they wanna do it.
The challenge for me is that it's 15F outside and snowing. There's no way I could put in 500km on the trainer!
why is any of this in a thread about pro cycling?
Because it's December 25th and nothing is happening in pro cycling.
