UCI no longer allows racing with GPS

I was notified by a protour team that the UCI issued a new rule today that racing with GPS is no longer allowed.
Not sure if this has been mentioned on here before.

Why? I cant see how it makes any difrence. Might drive Garmin away though

Perhaps UCI couldn't negotiate a good "deal" with (for benefit of UCI/UCI officials) GPS suppliers?

I heard it from my business partner who talked to the team manager.
I am not sure why, nor can i find it online so far to verify.

So let me get this right; they've removed race radio's from non World Tour races and now GPS are gone too?

My prediction the next move will be intersections where the riders get to chose one way or the one, ala Snakes and Ladders. One route will take you back to the start, the other is the correct way to the finish.



But from a more real life perspective, how the how do they expect us to find the race hotel post race! :? it's never well signed.

Does any one really use GPS in the race? Even if they equip GPS capable device I've never noticed any pros actively use it.... this is weird.

I know someone heard it from someone else who would seem credible, but I won't believe it until I see it truly confirmed. Makes no sense. If it really is true, then I guess that would be the end of Garmin as a sponsor as someone else suggested.

But the 500 DOES have a GPS.

There was talk about how Dan Llyod used to use a 500 to program POI on the route to remind him to watch out in places.
