No Hirschi & Pog in Fleche Walonne today due to a false positive test in the team

Probably a totally naive question but I'll ask it anyway: what's the reason to not use some sort of bike-mounted chip that registers the time it goes past a finish-line mounted sensor? Not precise enough?
They use timing chips for pretty much all races

yes, but not to determine the winner of a sprint finish apparently...and the reasons given in the previous comments all make sense, thanks!

Timing chips measure to seconds (for purpose of time gaps on the course) not thousands of a seconds required for finishing line accuracy.

Massive pack at the bottom of the Mur de Huy.. And Alaphilippe emerges at the top with a perfectly timed effort to beat Roglic who just went a little too early.

And Van de Breggen is just untouchable at this finish .. Niewedoma gets second again.

A well timed attack and win by Alaphilippe, but I cannot be a fan due to the showmaning.

Roglic was riding a fully internal routed Cervelo R5, maybe FSA ACR stem.

Showmaning is good because diversity is good.

I think that's as good as it gets for Froome, he shipped another 8 minutes today. He has shown no progress since last year so I don't see him progress much in 2.5 months for the Tour.

Severe injuries + his age + no more access to the Sky/Ineos drug cabinet + disc brake rub according to him, he should consider it a success if he can just reach Paris on the same day as the others. He might not even be able to hold onto nobodies' wheels from small teams in a successful breakaway that the peloton allows to go for a win.

Still it would be a pity if he goes out with a sizzle. A small bang (just a little one, yes) would be better, just so that everyone gets a reminder about that raid on Colle delle Finestre.

He was better at the few races he did last year. He's getting slower?

Being a showman is good, as long as you're a good loser as well.

I saw this too and posted an image in the pro equipment thread...I wondered if it a new R5 perhaps as the head tube doesn't appear to be the same shape as the current model..
