New Assos bibs causing testicle discomfort

I'm been using Assos bibs exclusively for the last 18 years. Probably purchased a dozen of their winter, summer, regular or race fit bib shorts. All Large. All fit really well. I'm 5'10 and 160lbs and been consistent all these years. I purchased new Assos bibs last month Équipe RS 9. I had last Gen version as well and felt great. Always large. Putting the new shorts on I noticed they were much tighter than last gen. But felt great. Nice compression. Went for a ride and my butt never felt better. But after 70km I noticed my left testicle had some discomfort. It would last most of the day and then go away by following day. I tried it a few more times and every time I had the same problem. I switched back to my old bibs and I have no issues. The only thing I can tell the difference is the new bibs seem more snug in the crotch area. My old bibs have more room. Has Assos sizing changed recently? Do I really need to get XL for extra front room now? Or am I just getting old now. Is there another Assos line that has more room? Thanks
