Waterproof gloves

Anyone got any recommendations? I'm after some with something like Goretex bonded to the outer shell so water can't soak the outer.

My castelli winter gloves are good and whilst staying dry inside, the outer soaks up water which isn't ideal.

Any season, any recommendations welcome...

Do you want them to be astheticly pleasing? If not have a look at the Showa 282. The Showa glove was originally a commercial fishing glove that is popular in the ultralight backpacking community. Andrew Skurka has a review (for backpacking). They are fully waterproof, insulated, and lightweight. They're certainly a function over form item though.

I have some Goretex gloves from Gore Wear and they work just fine. However, I have not used them very much: if it is warm enough for rain, I prefer some more comfortable Gore Infinium gloves to keep my hands warm (enough). During the winter (ie.subzero temperatures) you don't really need waterproof gloves.

Are you looking for truly waterproof in a downpour that lasts all day? I have found two gloves that can handle this. The best is Velotoze rain gloves. They are waterproof neoprene. IMO they must be worn with a liner to help wick away interior condensation - zero breathability. Can only be used in cold weather. Basically a glove for descents in armageddon weather or winter riding in constant rain. Great fit and dexterity considering it's basically a wetsuit.

The second is this odd thing:https://www.mec.ca/en/product/5053-602/drencher-gloves. However no longer available and you will only get about a dozen rides before they leak. Perhaps a similar item is available somewhere. Bonus - very packable. Great emergency layer to have in the mountains. Always have them with me over 2000 meters. Dexterity is surprisingly good despite the lobster design. Also need a liner to feel right.

If you are looking for protection from light rain, or off and on showers, these work:https://www.dexshell.com/products/water ... gloves-v3/. Similar "knitted" waterproof gloves are available from various brands but I don't know if they are as good. The Dexshell is a very pleasant glove to wear in 5 - 10 celcius whether raining or not - breathability is that good. Interior is a very soft cozy brushed fleece. As with most gloves of this sort, they are at there best waterproofwise when new.

Not waterproof at all but the material absorbs very little water so you don't end up with a dripping disgusting sponge surrounding each hand. They will be wet but will protect enough to keep hands warm and comfortable. Good in the rain above 10 Celcius. Very light and fine to go in a pocket even when wet. Will dry very quickly. Also very good grip. Thumbs are a bit short so I size up.

I have used the Showa fishermans glove mentioned above and the fit it crap unless you are a hobbit. Short fat fingers, poor overall dexterity, poor interface with jacket cuffs, and as you would expect serious interior condensation. Good for a descent rain emergency but you wouldn't want to ride any distance with them.

Any waterproof membrane item with a laminated outer fabric will "wet out". The DWR exterior waterproof treatment can only resist light showers. Any prolonged rain will lead to wetting out, saturation, loss of breathability, leaks, etc. That's what separates Shake Dry tech in jackets from the rest - no outer fabric to wet out. But the constant abrasion that is part of a gloves life means Shakedry type technology is not workable. So the only true permanent waterproof is rubber. That pretty much leaves waterproof neoprene as the only truly waterproof option. Everthing else is a shorter term, less effective solution.

I have the already mentioned Velotoze neoprene gloves and they are good. You are going to sweat in them but water does not get in.
However you could check these from Assos, they seem pretty good:

No taped seams on the Assos glove. My guess would be less then 20 minutes protection is a serious rain.

Just got back from over 3 hours in non-stop downpour. Steady moderate tempo - not hammering. Used the Velotoze gloves with a very light liner glove. Temp was 8 - 9 Celcius. Not bad today as far as sweating. The liner glove was barely damp at the end - but I sweat less then most so ymmv.

New info on the Castelli Idro 3. Those flexy panels are not completely waterproof. First time I had subjected the coat to such relentless hard rain. Leakage was very minor but still unexpected - have to say I am a bit disappointed. So all those Topo flex panels on various ShakeDry jackets will ultimately let a small amount of water through if you are in hard rain.
