I bought a Castelli Idro 3 in size M after deciding a Castelli Idro Pro 3 in size L was too large. I bought size L to begin with because all my Castelli one piece suits are size L for comfort and mistakenly thought therefore that is my true Castelli size. My measurements are 174cm 68kg. I posted the above jacket on another online forum and the consensus seems to be too big but I am not sure. This is the second smallest size Castelli makes and they are a company with a reputation for sizing their kit smaller than the marked size. I therefore want to get a second opinion with a full view shot rather than from the waist up.

I saw your posts on reddit & PL.
Yeah...both jackets are too big.
Have you tried a size small?
Whenever I zip-up my Castelli vest, I always inhale!

I cannot see the photo but I am 183cm/75kg and wear Castelli M in summer and L in winter. Also M with most other italian brands.
With your dimensions I would not consider anything but S, unless you consider additional layers underneath.

Here is another photo but not a bathroom selfie which I think that angle makes the jacket look larger than it is

I haven't tried S because this jacket is sold out and it is a massive pain in the ass to both buy and sell because of the rarity and nosebleed price and the niche interest when it comes to resell. I am beginning to suspect even in M this jacket is big but I won't know for sure unless I buy an S. Before that happens I am interested in getting an Idro Pro 3 in size M to see if that jacket can look fitted and skin tight due to the stretch panels rather than relying on the smallness of the cut.

Castelli jackets should fit tight.
You really have to peel the jacket off yourself.
Check the youtube video of Bernal @ 2021 Giro Stage 16.
Bernal peels the jacket off near the finish line!

Ok, now that I see the photos it looks more like this particular jacket just does not suit you well. It should work for typical racers with small arms. You have wide shoulders and while size S would be better fit, it might be too tight around the chest.

Easy way to think about this:

It is too big if it is loose enough to make an annoying flapping sound when descending. Size doesn't matter. Fit does. If it goes on easily and comes off easily, it is probably too big for you.

It seems that many cycle clothing have a race fit and regular or relaxed fit nowadays and Castelli are one of them. Typically the fit will be in the description or an icon will be on that page somewhere. I just purchased a Castelli commuting jacket in the 2XL which is what I normally wear and when I received I was surprised at how much bigger it was but I read the reviews that warned me about sizing as its made to fit over your suit or whatever it is you would wear to work. I am okay with the size though as I bought it for a casual shell to wear over other jackets. It is very nice and light and waterproof as well as windproof.

That jacket is not too big. Yes the sleeves are a bit long and there is some billowing of material along the zipper in the torso, but around the shoulders and armpits you fill it nicely. While you may be fine in the next size down, it is possible you might find it a bit tight in the shoulders/armpits. Also the torso length looks correct as does the fit at the hips/waist. A smaller size might strain to get around your hips/waist which can make zipping up a PIA and lead to premature wear. Ultimately it may come down to how you intend to use it.

I have two Castelli Idro 3 jackets. One is XL and the other is XXL - bought them both becauase I was between sizes. My XXL fits quite similar to yours in the photo. Yes it is on the larger side, but if you intend to use it for cold rainy off-season conditions you may prefer it. I find that my more race fit XL works during the summer in the mountains for a cold descent or sudden rain storm, but for riding during the winter, the XXL works much better over winter kit, bulky gloves, etc. Just better coverage and less restriction. FWIW the larger XXL doesn't flap much even though the fit is a bit generous - it's well designed. And as a winter item, it won't see any serious descending at that time of year anyway. If I could only have one, I would choose the bigger XXL.

The images of various pros is only informative if you are racing and will only ever wear the jacket over summer race kit. In that case, a size down might be better.

The Idro 3 at 5:33 isn't that tight, looks like a good average fit. You can definitely go tighter with the Pro version because of the abundance of stretch panels, but I never liked it as much as the non-Pro version - too bulky in the pocket and a nuisance to get off an on over my large hands. And IMO pockets are a waste.
