lol you're on the wrong forum brotherfroze wrote: ↑Sun Dec 01, 2024 11:55 pmNot sure why anyone would spend over $60 for a tire, not alone over $100 if you're not racing, for a tire that will only last 2,000 miles and some only last 1,000 miles...but I'm a tightwad, owning businesses does that to a person.
I always look for closeout deals on tires, I have a pair of Specialized S-Works Turbo Road Tire 2-Pack, 700x24mm coming around the 7th I got from Excel Sports for $45 including taxes and shipping. While those tires are not the fastest tires on the block, I'm not freaking racing, so for me to ride 40 miles and return home 15 to 30 seconds later isn't going to bother me.

Perhaps I can influence your thinking on this issue.
What other part of a bicycle can significantly improve speed, safety, and comfort for $100? or less? It is an easy argument that tires are the single most important bicycle component with the lowest relative cost.

Exactly, some people don't mind to pay 2k or more to shed 200grams of weight, whilst going from let's say a P Zero RS to an Enve Raceday can almost do the same for 100 euro or so more. (not to mention what kind of gains you can buy by going from a high RR tire to a low RR tire etc.Mr.Gib wrote: ↑Tue Dec 03, 2024 5:09 pmPerhaps I can influence your thinking on this issue.

It's probably the best ROI there is.
Hang on, you kind of missed it. I meant going from some $40 tire to something like a Pirelli P Zero Race RS TLR. From the Pirelli to the fragile tire like the Enve? That would only make sense for some specific applications like a TT or a crit on good roads. Remember Froze's (edit) premise was "if you are not racing".Requiem84 wrote: ↑Tue Dec 03, 2024 5:12 pmExactly, some people don't mind to pay 2k or more to shed 200grams of weight, whilst going from let's say a P Zero RS to an Enve Raceday can almost do the same for 100 euro or so more. Yeah, just an example to illustrate the impact different tires can have on your bike for a limited investment. No particular advice for @Froze.
Ooops, yeah, meant Froze. Fixed above.
Sheesh, are the Enve Race Days that much better than the Pirelli RS? Like Corsa Speed but with better traction I assume.

The weight difference us close to 100g/tire, it's insane.
Much better I don't know, maybe a bit more subtle in damping but hardly noticeable. Had one at the back that flatted in a few weeks. One in the front is hokding on for 4k now.
But like you say, if it's not for racing there are better options. Still, funny to reduce your bike's weight by almost 200g with just some tires. Especially fun because it's weight where you notice it most.
