I am really happy with the tires but given that price gap I'm not sure I'd choose them over the S TR. Sure they are more puncture resistant and have more tread depth but not 50% more to match the price.

How would you rate them vs gp price wise and durability? I can pick gp 5000 s tr for 40€/piece and these for 60-65€/piece so its kinda hard decision to buy them since i can get conti for cheaper.
I'm also torn between GP5000 S TR and P-Zero TLR RS. Where can you find the GP for 40eur?

The difference between the tires is very very subtle, there's no winner between them. I think the Pirellis roll a little softer than the Contis at the same pressure (ca 4,7 - 4,9 bar), but it's just a nuance, so do not get me wrong - it's not a day and night difference. They're just equally good, so do not expecy any big sensations, unless you're very prone to placebo effect. I hope the durability of the Pirellis will justify the price tag, but it's too soon to say. I also hope the wet grip is better with the Pirellis but I haven't had a chance to risk losing grip and slipping my wheel, so again, hard to tell yet.

Thanks. To be honest I'm only considering Pirellis (having ridden GP5K exclusively so far) because of higher durability and puncture protection - at least that is what BRR is claiming based on their tests.

I'm on the look out for some new tyres for the winter bike, and the Pirelli RS or Race TLR both look interesting.
A few have commented on the shape being more "bullet" than "domed" surely this means there is a smaller contact patch for any given size?

Wet grip is high on my list so wanted to clarify before deciding

The shape under no tension has little bearing on the shape under your weight. The contact patch shape will be the same.

I wasnt sure if it was the case or if they'd moulded the rubber into a point instead of an arc.

UAE was sponsored by Pirelli in '22 and '23, I believe.
Just 2022. For 2023 they switched to Continental.

Following Pog's "f*cking Pirelli" video which went viral when he lost the back end...

In fairness to Pirelli, their tyres were still made under license by Hutchinson in France at that time and they were less than stellar.

The Made in Italy Pirelli's are on another level - the best tyres I've ever ridden in both quality of manufacture and in performance. Who knows, we may have to thank him if that was the driver for Pirelli to bring things in house.

Just my experience but I highly rate the Pirelli TLR RS in the wet. Have about 2k miles on these in 30mm & 28mm and they have been fantastic with many rain rides. Most of my rides were loaded with really steep climbs (10-20% grades) and they were honestly one of the best performing tires in the wet that I have used to date.

They are still a performance tire so you give up a bit of puncture protection and logevity, but honestly they have been holding up really well so far. I feel like they really strike a perfect balance between speed/grip/longevity/puncture protection (at least for what I am looking for).

Thanks. I've been looking at them but given they're skinny I'd want something wider.

Has anyone purchased the RS in Retro color? Does it have a black rubber at the bead hook? Web images look mixed so I assume some are pre-production versions.

The GP5k and Prima have this and I think it really takes away from the tan look by reducing the tan part to a narrower strip.

For the retro RS, some places won't have it until closer to the end of November... at least in the US.
