China Cycling does a comparison to the Roval Rapide CLX ii's using a Gibli aero sensor.

PeakTorque also tested with an aero sensor and had them in the same ball park as Winspace Mega's.

That's about it as far as I know.

I appreciate the respect, but lets not start throwing my word around as if I'm an actual authority. I like to think my opinions are well informed and based in fact, but they're usually based in reading spec sheets, looking at pics and 2nd, 3rd, 4th, etc. hand information. There's plenty of room for error.Nickldn wrote: ↑Thu Dec 05, 2024 9:57 pmRead also this post from Toxin, who says they are the best wheels atm:

On the topic at hand. Personally, I'm not a big fan of "designed as a system" being touted as an inherent advantage. Let's be real here, bike technology and performance are not that complex at the end of the day.
Yeah I think CRW is one of the best off the shelf packages out there and the best from China. I would attribute that majorly to their courage to innovate and push the limits of carbon spoke tech. I don't remember if we ever found out how much thir individual components weigh, but considering how many others are starting to approach or surpass their spec with not the lightest hubs, their rims don't appear to be that special. I think it's possible to build a set of wheels with individual, off the shelf parts, that would perform better than CRW. That is because they are still the same product as they were on release and better methods of doing things have emerged since. It's just that nobody has put all of it together in a single product yet. If they want to stay on top they'll have to keep developing or they'll go the way of Winspace.

As an aisde, I think this is actually one of the most underrated features of the CRWs... the spokes being threaded on both ends. No way for them to pop out, etc. Lots of carbon spoke brands (especially using the 'hooked on the flange' approach) have to run very very high spoke tensions because they're afraid of the spokes popping out. No such troubles if threaded on both ends.
Anyway, my >15 sets of carbon spoke wheels; loads of them are great. There's more than one way to skin a cat. Looking forward to the next big thing, no matter who it's from.
P.S: New product from CRW launching in a few months... but it's not a wheelset.
Threaded hubs are my favourite thing about the CRWs, and my hope is that it becomes the standard. It's safer and leaves more freedom for spoke and hub design. Once we can build our own carbon spoke wheels by picking and choosing threaded hubs and spokes the way we can now with steel spokes, is when I will consider carbon spokes as fully mature technology.
The more robust CRW spoke/hub interface is the reason I felt confident enough to buy wheels with carbon spokes in the first place.
Let's face it, carbon spokes are still very new compared to steel, CRW's is the first implementation I have seen that makes sense (to me) from a safety perspective. I appreciate others' views may vary in this respect, but in my view this is the way the industry has to go.
I was descending Teide yesterday evening, the wheels felt great with 28mm GP5000S TRs, CRW did not focus on achieving the lightest weight makes me more confident in the engineering.

The crw spokes are also threaded in the nipple side?toxin wrote:Threaded hubs are my favourite thing about the CRWs, and my hope is that it becomes the standard. Yes... in the sense that most spokes are threaded into a nipple. The rim side is more traditional in that sense.External nipples.

Can I run the Aero 111 29mm with Conti STR 30mm on the rear? With IW of 21mm, would the 30mm rear tire be a little too much?
Rear tyre/rim profile doesn't matter for aero so narrow IW is fine.mikerthebiker wrote: ↑Wed Dec 11, 2024 6:31 pmCan I run the Aero 111 29mm with Conti STR 30mm on the rear? With IW of 21mm, would the 30mm rear tire be a little too much?
It does matter for comfort though. As you mentioned, it doesn't affect aero, so why not go wider and have more comfort. More comfort equates to more speed as you can go faster for longer with less aches and pains.bobones wrote: ↑Thu Dec 12, 2024 12:05 amRear tyre/rim profile doesn't matter for aero so narrow IW is fine.mikerthebiker wrote: ↑Wed Dec 11, 2024 6:31 pmCan I run the Aero 111 29mm with Conti STR 30mm on the rear?
