Yesterday Pirelli released the P Zero Race TLR RS. Claimed to be lighter and around 13% faster according to some media reports. Looking forward to seeing it get tested at BRR!

16% faster. That would still put it slower than the GP5K S TR, let alone the TT TR, but if it has good grip and decent puncture resistance I might race on it.
That's my logic for racing too. I saw the 16% quoted also, maybe the 13% was a typo. Anyway all a bit meaningless until we have some real test data.

The reduction in weight is welcome, but it seems to be due to a thinner thread (and thus less puncture protection?).

All we can do is weight for BRR

How do these do on a 23mm internal rim? I'm on RSL51 and my GP5k measures out to 31mm, matching the outside width. I'd be open to something that blows up to 30mm or so for a "better" aero profile

Also heard a rumor that Pirelli is going to start making tires for TREK, under a new name and the Bontrager options will fade away

Pirelli has a chart for this... it's pretty close. My 28mm P Zero Race TLRs measure ~29.7mm on 23mm rims at 60psi which seems in line with the same tire measuring a little narrower, but at +20psi on 21mm rims.

I would get the 30mm tires for your RSL 51s.

I was aiming to have the tire slightly narrower than the widest part of the rim. Right now my GP5k measure 31mm, based on your 29.7 the 28mm would be the way to go. I run about 66psi

To me the huge selling point of the P Zero range is the balance of good rolling resistance and puncture protection.
Are we looking at the same BRR data? The P Zero has worse rolling resistance than an AS TR.

It's basically a 4 season tire, not mych of a quick training tire.

Let me rephrase that: Decent rolling resistance. In fact I lately replaced the P Zero Race TLR (after their recall) with the AS TR for my relaxed road bikes and commuters. Primarily due to better rolling resistance.

  • Vitus Venon Evo

To me the P Zero Race TLR w/Speedcore has a better ridefeel than the 3-ply GP5K S TR, let alone the 4-ply AS TR. The P Zero also has a thicker tread cap and better tread puncture resistance. This should also mean punctures will be easier to seal.

That's a very marginal gain. Per BRR the difference at 3.7 BAR is about 1 watt....

Sounds like a great winter tire. I just hope the new version will at least be in the AS TR or Comtura range for RR. I'm a big fan of improved ride feel, so if they can get RR down, it'll be a real contender in my book. Plus, I like that they offer 35mm and 40mm sizes

You fell for it, just like I did. That's their year long trick. They're only offered up to 30mm at the moment.

Don't know how true or not this video is.

Pzero came out with the lowest rr, even lower rr than gp5kstr.

It's not because of what reason? Just because it doesn't support BRR's data?

The Aerocoach and BRR data both agree with each other, this test data does not. Makes you question why their results are inconsistent with the other two.
