Weight Weenies

Can't find much in here about them but they seem quite popular in the MTB scene, particularly in Europe. On the road their Baccara SLS2 Disc Clincher looks the goods. 21mm internal, 390g for the 36mm depth, 470g for the 56mm deep rim.

Basically Im looking for something deeper and wider than my 35mm MCFK rims and these seem to fit the bill both in terms of price and weight. Can get them built through r2 Bike with some Carbon Ti hubs + Sapim CX rays and you've got yourself a sub 1500g, 56mm deep wheelset for under EUR1300. I thought Weight Weenies would be all over it or is there something that I'm missing?

Most WW buy these direct from the rim manufacturer, Light Bicycle. There is a massive thread discussing the brand here on WW, including the AR36 and AR56 wheels you are interested in. I’ve had the AR36 for 4 years, great wheels.

I am familiar with Lightbicycles rims, couldnt figure why Duke has barely been mentioned on these forums. Makes sense I guess. Although Lightbicycle dont offer an assymetric profile for their rims and their 56mm rims are wider than the Duke rims. I wonder if Lightbicycle manufacture the rims using Dukes own moulds?

On the MTB side, I notice on their website that Pauline Ferrand Prevot rides their wheels along with the Absolute Absalon team, Focus Factory Team and BMC Factory Team. Not that it makes a difference to me at all but if re-badged Lightbicycle rims are good enough for the GOAT and the current XCO and XCM World Champ then thats a pretty resounding endorsement for LB!

Has someone tried the new Ultra version of the road disc rim?
345 grams for 36 deep, 22 internal, 27.6 external is pretty good, maybe the lightest available right now. Rider weight limit 95kg.

That’s a very good weight, 15g less than the AR35 with very similar dimensions https://www.lightbicycle.com/newsletter ... -AR45.html but a more than double the price. Put the price difference toward CarbonTi hubs?

You can get the Duke built with Carbon-Ti for 1580€ at ruedascustom.com, the Light-Bicycle wheels are 1260€ incl shipping to Europe

But without customs to Europe I think? Which account for a lot of extra €€

Hi, I'm interested in the Duke wheel too. Has anyone tried them? I think the difference between Duke and Lightbicycle is that Duke has a hooked rim and Lightbicycle hasn't. Right? I prefer the hooked rim, I like to use 25mm tires and inflate them at 100 psi. I don't trust the hookless rims for racing purpose honestly.

I bought a set for my daughter but the tubular version ( Baccara T ), 35 mm with Bitex hubs, soldered 24/24h . Can't beat that price.

She preferred them to her Roval 60 mm (can't remember wich model but 2nd tier) by a landslide. She says they're much stiffer.

I would hardly call that proof. Do any of their wheels have identical specs and cross-section?

Interesting.
Though many French bike and wheels-hubs manufacturers are in that region. Aivee-Asterion wheels to name another one.
I'm not expecting the rims to be in-house made that's for sure.

Yes, one example I was looking at recently is Duke World Runner Carbon 38 vs LB Falcon Pro WR38 (flyweight version).
It's just interesting LB states 90kg as max. weight, while Duke says 135kg. Other than that specs are identical.

While the prices for LB Pro Series is not the same value as their normal range, the difference (600€ LB vs. 860€ Duke for EU) is still considerable.

I guess if you can't build wheels by yourself, Duke is still the way to go. Ordering a complete wheelset from LB doesn't make sense in my opinion.
