Seems like they got a bit coky after the success hit. Main reason for me to go with CHinese direct-to-consumer was the good service experience. Guess thas not holding true to Winspace anymore

In my experience Chinese ceramic bearings are the worst. I had crunchy bearings on my Winspace and farsports wheels after less than 1000km.BenCousins wrote: ↑Tue May 07, 2024 9:05 amInterestingly inconsistent experience of Winspace customer service here. I just contacted them via chat about a warranty issue with a set of Hyper 67 wheels (crunchy bearings in rear after only 2000km) and I got this:

Local Winspace retailer offered to replace them but I declined and slapped on some Enduro and NTN bearings which have no problems to date.

Speaking of bearings I have a freehub that decides to barf pawls when it feels like it. Anyone else seen this issue? I've looked at a few pages on this thread, but not all 90....
Thanks!
Thanks!
Can anyone recommend which pads to use with Hyper SE rim brake wheels?
The overwhelming consensus seems to be the pads supplied by Winspace are the best, and they are what I've always used, but they don't sell replacements sets on their site.
I was thinking of replacing them with Campag Red pads, as they seem to have the best braking performance, but I've heard they run considerably hotter than others, such as the SwissStop Black Prince. Wear/longevity is not a concern to me, as I'd rather wear through pads frequently, rather than increase the risk of rim damage.

Hi guys, I'm waiting on an order of the R45 Hyper 23 (21mm IW / 27.6 EW). From many on this thread it appears the Conti GP5000 STR measures at ~27.5mm when installed. I really love the look of the "cream" walled tyres over the tanned. Has anyone installed the Corsa Pro 26mm tyre on these? Or even the Challenge Criterium RS? Both have great reviews and look fantastic compared to the tanned walls, and are meant to offer a more plush ride than the conti's with a higher thread count. TIA.

Thanks guys, I'll grab a set when it comes time to replace the WinSpace pads.KalleWirsch wrote: ↑Tue Aug 13, 2024 10:18 amBlack Prince here as well since 1,5 years. Absolutely no problems. It works.
Edit: I do have the Hyper 23, not the SE.
The same experience here - the freehub bearings felt a little rough, I extracted them and was about to push in new bearings when I noticed the freehub body is deformed, and there are some cracks around the pawls. The cracks actually protrude all the way to the inner freehub inner bearing, which makes the bearing easy to push in and out. This could definitely cause the inner bearing to completely detach from the freehub - @mtdsf maybe you should check your freehub for deformations like these.mtdsf wrote: ↑Wed Jun 12, 2024 6:44 pmExtracted the bearing (in the second case what was left of it) and bought a new freehub body. Winspace customer service saw these pictures and replied that "The freehub is a consumable item, so it is normal for it to be worn out". Not really the answer I was expecting.
This happened after only 10000km on the wheels.
The support said the cracks in freehub caused by the stress from pawls is not covered by warranty, and I should just order a new freehub.
Definitely not the answer I expected. I guess, with these wheels you have to budget for a new hub every 10000 km. I wish they could just use DT Swiss ratchet hubs for their wheels.

I noticed some creaking under load after about 10,000mi on my 2020 Hypers and had the same issue that others have mentioned with the freehub bearing being stuck on the axle and the bore on the freehub being out of tolerance. I could push the bearing in and out of the freehub by hand. Since the bearings themselves were good, I cleaned and reinstalled it with some Loctite 641, which is a medium strength retaining compound designed to fill this sort of gap while still enabling eventual removal and service. Following 24h of curing, the bearing is now solidly in the hub and the wheels no longer creak.
There was no cracking or damage near the pawls - my freehub seems to have a lip there that probably makes it more durable.
I rode 50 miles and opened it up again. The bearing stayed in the freehub and everything looks good. These wheels have been great, very light and responsive, and (probably since I don't ride them in the wet) have not needed any maintenance before now.
