Here’s my contribution to this amazing thread from Spain.

My Cannondale caad3 with some mods (Y guide for shifting cables under diagonal tube) and jewels (chris king headset, dura ace, Thomson stem and seat post, Columbus fork). I’ve never seen welded frame finish like this in my entire life.

7,5kg build on 56 size.

Not sure if the 13 is different, but on my CAAD10 it was a drop in replacement, I just re-used all the washers etc.

Hey guys, google has been no help, nor has my previous Cannondale experience!

I have a CAADX arriving soon, and I want to swap out the cranks, I've found a set of Sram Red 10 speed BB30 cranks that will work I THINK. My understanding is that my new CAADX is, like my Synapse and SS Evo Disc, is actually BB30a. I've ran a 10 speed Force crank in my Synapse before and that worked fine, but 10 speed red uses the shorter spindle from what I can see online, but there are so many varients!

Basically I'm wondering has anyone ran this crank in a bb30a frame? Its the version without the hidden bolt, so the earlier version of this crank, from a 2011 Synapse actually, but these seem to use a true BB30 BB. I'm a glutton for punishment with all my Cannondales

I don't think the spindle on that one is long enough. Needs to be the last iteration of Red 11s cranks to work.

Hi All,

I'm new here. I picked up this lovely Cannondale CAAD9 R5. I believe it's a 2008/2009 model. Seems to be all original. Got it from the original owner for a great price, who says he used it less than 5000kms.

It's in beautiful condition. I bought a chain wear took and it definitely needs a new chain, but all the other components (except tires) seem to be almost mint.

I'd like to make this a project bike, as it's not my main ride. Since the cranks, derailleurs and group set look mint, I'm leaning towards keeping it all original, mostly, but still looking to hear opinions on what to do to the bike.

I'm leaning towards putting some DT Swiss Spline 23 wheels (1550g) to replace the Shimano WH-R550 (1850g) and new lighter tires like Schwalbe One 25C, replace the old brakes with Shimano 105 BR-7000. In other words, with a $800-1k budget, I'd like to see how much I can change.

Current seatpost is almost 300g. I'm thinking of those carbon seatpost a on AliExpress that are 150g and like $50. Could probably use a new saddle too.
For thé Chain, is a KMC x10 ok or at double the price is the X10SL worth it? The difference seems to be a very marginal 15-20g.

I'm open to ideas and suggestions. Again, I don't want to sink more than $800-1000 on it. I want it to be a budget build with a few pounds shaved where possible, mainly to replace worn and aging components on this 14 year old bike.

Superb CAAD with a lot of potential. Definitly change the wheels. You will benefit the most from losing weight on those parts. I would probably look for a little higher rim than a 23. That is for looks so to say.

Furthermore I would lose some spacers but that depends on if it fits you to sit a little deeper.

A while ago my son did a few rides on my CAAD. And it seems that he is getting hooked on road bikes. So I looked to get him a CAAD and I found one online. Did a total rebuild with a 105 group and some nice DTSwiss PR1400 wheels. Shed some weight by replacing the C3 stem for a C2, changing to a carbon bar and a Save seatpost instead of the C3 alu post. Als changed the SI cranks to HG SI cranks.

Got the bike delivered to him (in Austria - I live in The Netherlands) and we did a nice tour in the Austrian mountains.

I was looking for a 52 for my son...not realizing that Cannondale changed the frame of the CAAD12 in 2018. So the 2016 and 2017 CAAD12 size 52 has a 56cm seattube whereas the 2018 onward 52 has a 54cm seattube. Since that is the only difference, reach and stack are the same on these frames, the 56cm (thus 52) fits fine.
