Don't like discs that much but for it's purpose it must be very nice. Beautifull colour!
Anyone still have a steel bike?

As you can imagine it is definitely heavier. BUT the ride is incredibly smooth. Well isolated from road inconsistencies. Confidence building as a result. I commute to work on this bike when I can so will ride it fairly heavy. I really like the disc brakes as I feel safer when loaded up and when mixing with light traffic. By comparison, for my weekend ride, weight rules the day for me so my carbon ride is optimized for weight (with rim brakes), snappy, and aero-ish. Maybe not WW territory but really light nonetheless. The lack of much isolation means I can feel this low modulating humming coming from the road, through the wheels that transmits up into the frame and into the bars and seat as if the bike is burbling with energy. It eats hills for lunch. If I ride the Mason without any of the carry weight, it is definitely fun to give it a go but this build is not as efficient converting power to GO.ducman wrote:Nice! How does it roll compared to your carbon bike?
Interestingly, this frameset is a 54, and I have discovered it is almost a geo copy of Colnago C64 in a 52s geometry, maybe 1 cm longer wheelbase, otherwise almost identical down to the effective top tube, reach, stack, BB drop. Given that Colnagos are reputed to have wonderful ride characteristics, I can’t help but to wonder how much of the smoothness comes from geo vs material (or even tires). In my opinion, it is as smooth as it gets.

Regards!

Not a fan of Merckx, but that's a very beautiful bike!
I have two steel framesets, both with carbon forks.
Ritchey Swiss Cross (canti) and a Field Cycles custom disc road.
Both are incredible, if a little weighty compared to carbon. For riding long distances, however, I’d pick one of my steel bikes over carbon any day of the week.

I have this one, for just rolling around. A Rivendell custom road. The frame was built by Curt Goodrich, who now builds for himself (http://www.curtgoodrich.com/), and the paintwork is by Joe Bell.
Super, by an all-star bunch.NickJHP wrote: ↑Mon Nov 26, 2018 8:04 amI have this one, for just rolling around. A Rivendell custom road. The frame was built by Curt Goodrich, who now builds for himself (http://www.curtgoodrich.com/), and the paintwork is by Joe Bell.
What great colors too.

You’re a special kind of fattie Aaron- notice the word “plenty” and not “all”. Good luck for the race tomorrow.Nefarious86 wrote: ↑Sat Dec 08, 2018 7:30 amCouldn't match a fattie on an alloy nugget up powderworks haha.Wookski wrote:
