Latest addition, a 5-6 year old Custom Steel Tomii Stampede Team CX.

Initial Build Tomii.jpg
I really like canti/mini v on gravel bikes. Are those Minimoto s you are running?
I have a question about the shifters/brake levers.... what combo did you use ??
Personally I think that a bar end shifter would look even cooler...
MiniMotos, yes.

I had a pair of Gevenalle 9 speed short brake pull I have been wanting to try. I got them new and not used until now. I swapped out the 9 speed index bit for 10s before my CX jaunt yesterday. Had a loose Microshift right shifter form someplace laying around.

Now that I know the bike is a winner for me, I may do 11s on it...

Since we are in steel-gravel mode, my new BBloque. I posted full build and details on the intro section.
It's made out of Columbus XCR stainless tubbing.

I am delighted with the ride; similar to titanium.

What’s going on with the rear mech? Shifting must be pretty vague?

I'm trying to get my first steel bike so need your opinions on this.
Ritchey Logic (was thinking of getting the disc or the limited edition)
or this Wilier Superleggera ?

Thanks

No experience with steel, but that superleggera is stunning and what a price.

"that superleggera "

Not my first choice of tubeset, but really that is insignificant. The rep ALL Wilier steel has for ride/glide quality and road feel definitely a big time asset. Price is fantastic as well..

Good price; not sure about the geometry. The streel fork will have implications (not just weight, but also ride).
I don't think it will ride like a modern steel. In spite of the heavy discount, the price is the same as the Logic, which I think I would rather.

£1000 for a seamed Cromor tubed frame that is finished in Italy? Hardly a bargain.

Just reread the ad. RRP of £2999 is misleading at best, fraudulent at worst. Never worth that ever.
You can buy a better quality modern Italian built steel frame for far less at full retail.

Sorry, not sure if I am picking up language correctly here. Do you think it is very cheap or not?

I don't think cromor tubes are particularly expensive; I love Italy (used to travel twice a month for work), but I would focus on the good quality, which can certainly come from Taiwan, Italy and a few other manufacturers located in different countries.

I don't think a bargain is a heavy discount on something nobody wants (not saying this is necessarily the case), but a great price on something I really want.

Ritchey Logic is probably much cheaper to produce, but I think it rides very nicely, has a balanced geometry and a fork I would rather. It's not as stiff, but almost as much as the more modern steel bikes with higher dimensioned tubes.

The Willier is kind of heavy, with a steel fork, geometry seems demanding (for my preference) and might be a bit wobbly (?).

Just my thoughts; obviously either can be very enjoyable if the buyer knows what he is after.

The Ritchey is a modern road bike, while the Wilier is more of a style ride that is bordering LARP (in my opinion) and tricky to build stylishly with modern(ish) componentry.

To the average customer this looks like a killer deal. It’s not.

Merlin are being deliberately misleading in their pitch for this frame. Cromor tubing was more of a budget race or training tubeset that was made by rolling flat sheets into a tube shape and welding them. They typically sold for £2-300 back in the day, so suggesting that the RRP now is £3k is laughable. At the most it should have retailed for the price they are asking.

We sell a couple of classic geometry steel frames that are Italian produced and made from more appropriate tubing. Neither sells for as much as they are claiming this Wilier should sell for.

It will be built up with 2013 Super Record 11 and Shamal Mille wheels.
