Presenting, my
2012 Bianchi Oltre "Vacansoleil-DCM" team issue rig, the best amongst all my previous ones
Specs: 55cm carbon frame; Shimano Dura-Ace 7900 mechanical drivetrain with FSA K-Force "red/white" striped crank, brakes, bar and stem;
temporary? Shimano Dura-Ace CL24 carbon laminate wheels; Michelin Pro3 Race tyres and AirComp Ultralight tubes; San Marco Concor Racing team saddle; Look Keo Blade pedals; Elite Custom bottle cages. Total weight as pictured (incl. Polar S725 computer and sensor plus carbon Topeak Micro Rocket pump on other side of photo and
excluding 1.1kg of water):
7kg exactly.
This was a custom build to fully reflect the pro team bike (except for a KMC X10SL gold chain and no FFWD F6R carbon tubulars with DT240s hubs -
dream upgrade) as raced in the first half of 2012, since the "retail" team issue bike instead runs Dura-Ace 7900 brakes and "celeste" FSA K-Force cockpit parts... and Elite Sior instead of Custom bottle cages
Unfortunately, this bike came after a nasty road accident that initially put me on a wheelchair with a broken ankle, and unable to walk for 3 months thanks to a careless driver before New Year's 2011... but good things come to those who wait. So a special thanks to Bianchi Australia, Limar, Selle San Marco for their hand in getting me back on a bike,
this awesome bike .
The key dream upgrade, as I mentioned above, now remains a
sweet set of FFWD F6R wheels to be able to finally really have my "pro tour" Oltre look like the one below! By all accounts... who needs Zipp, Mavic, Fulcrum or Shimano... the FFWD wheels not only look fantastic in celeste but are also a match for the rest in terms of performance also thanks to DARC aero design, 1350g light
hand-made construction & quality... if not excellent value for money!
