Hi there,
Long term reader of the forum, but never posted my bike before.
Here is my old school aero bike, a Cervelo S3 from 2010. I bought it in 2016.
Since then I changed the handlebar from alu 3T classic bend to a more modern 3T carbon one with a compact bend.
Wheels went from Fulcrum Racing 1 to used Lightweight Gen. 3 tubulars with Conti Competition tubes.
Changed the saddle from Fizik Arione to a Chinese full carbon saddle.
Ditched the aero Q rings for 'normal' non aero rings. This also changed the gearing from 53-38 to 52-36.
Changed the rear jockey wheels to ceramic ones for the real marginal gains
Total build
Frame: Cervelo S3 2010
Fork: 3T Funda Team carbon
Seatpost: Cervelo Aero SL carbon
Saddle: Chinese knock off carbon
Handlebar: 3T Ergosum Team
Bartape: Fizik
Stem: 3T ARX LTD
Shifters: SRAM Red 22
Front Derailleur: SRAM Red 22
Rear Derailleur: SRAM Red 22
Crankset: Rotor 3D with Stronglight CT2 52-36 chaingring
Brakes: SRAM Force
Wheels: Lightweight Gen. 3 Tubular
Tires: Continental Competition 25mm
Cassette: Shimano Ultegra 11-28
Paddles: Speedplay Zero
Total weight for the current build is 6.4 kg. Which, to me, is fairly decent considering most tech is 10+ years old.
Now looking in to some more light parts while not braking the bank. I'm currently considering getting some 2nd hand weightweenie brakes (Ciamillo zero's). This should take off another 100 grams or so.
Also considering a lighter crank, but this confuses the hell out of me. Not sure which crank/bb system will work for this generation of S3. If someone has some pointers on what to look out for please let me know! My S3 has a BSA30 BB but I'm not sure which cranks will fit. I don't mind if I have to change the BB, but to what do I have to change?
When I need to replace the tubes I will switch to a 23 mm in the front as this old school fork is not yet made for wider tires.
