My 2018 R5d
Awesome clean looking bike, do you have any more pictures?

Begs to question why Cervelo needs a model update. The answer is quite clear I guess; lots of people get a really hard on for internal cabling and sales of the R5 must be behind (it's all Canyon/Specialized nowadays). This frame doesn't really need it if you'd ask me, especially considering it's probably add €1.5-2k to the build.
There's some more pictures here, but they're mostly from the previous configuration of this bike. viewtopic.php?f=10&t=163400
I recently ordered a Darimo seatpost, maybe I'll do another photoshoot of the bike when it arrives.

First ride today with the new bike :D

I've wanted to build a disc bike for some two years now, and couldn't resist when I saw a very good offer for this frame earlier this year.
It really took some time to get all the Shimano parts for the build, but I'm really happy that it's ready now right in time for the main cycling season!

Build list:
Ultegra Di2, exept for cassette (Dura-Ace), crankset (Rotor Aldhu), rotors (XT, originally wanted XTR but they were simply unavailable)
Roval Alpinist CL wheels
Cockpit with Syntace Liteforce and Pro Vibe carbon bar
Roval Alpinist seatpost with my heavy, though beloved Prologo Scratch saddle.

Complete weight as shown is 7.08 kg, which is almost identical to my 2006 R3 (7.01 kg)

From my climb up to Reddish Knob on Wednesday.
I should've run 45-50psi instead of 65psi, that road was full of holes. Image

Hi,

as I had my old Soloist Team frameset hanging in my garage and picked up a DA 9100 group for cheap, I decided to return the bike to service ... some kind of semi-retromod as the frame is from 2005 IIRC

Nice! Currently at exactly 7kg (Despite many heavy parts). Its funny how easy that frame gets below 6.8kg.

Mine is right at 6.8 with the 65 rear wheel and the heavy GP5000TL tires. With normal tires (Enve ses or Schwalbe pro one) and 50mm front and rear it sits at 6.58.

Hi there,

Long term reader of the forum, but never posted my bike before.
Here is my old school aero bike, a Cervelo S3 from 2010. I bought it in 2016.

Since then I changed the handlebar from alu 3T classic bend to a more modern 3T carbon one with a compact bend.
Wheels went from Fulcrum Racing 1 to used Lightweight Gen. 3 tubulars with Conti Competition tubes.
Changed the saddle from Fizik Arione to a Chinese full carbon saddle.
Ditched the aero Q rings for 'normal' non aero rings. This also changed the gearing from 53-38 to 52-36.
Changed the rear jockey wheels to ceramic ones for the real marginal gains

Total build
Frame: Cervelo S3 2010
Fork: 3T Funda Team carbon
Seatpost: Cervelo Aero SL carbon
Saddle: Chinese knock off carbon
Handlebar: 3T Ergosum Team
Bartape: Fizik
Stem: 3T ARX LTD
Shifters: SRAM Red 22
Front Derailleur: SRAM Red 22
Rear Derailleur: SRAM Red 22
Crankset: Rotor 3D with Stronglight CT2 52-36 chaingring
Brakes: SRAM Force
Wheels: Lightweight Gen. 3 Tubular
Tires: Continental Competition 25mm
Cassette: Shimano Ultegra 11-28
Paddles: Speedplay Zero

Total weight for the current build is 6.4 kg. Which, to me, is fairly decent considering most tech is 10+ years old.

Now looking in to some more light parts while not braking the bank. I'm currently considering getting some 2nd hand weightweenie brakes (Ciamillo zero's). This should take off another 100 grams or so.
Also considering a lighter crank, but this confuses the hell out of me. Not sure which crank/bb system will work for this generation of S3. If someone has some pointers on what to look out for please let me know! My S3 has a BSA30 BB but I'm not sure which cranks will fit. I don't mind if I have to change the BB, but to what do I have to change?

When I need to replace the tubes I will switch to a 23 mm in the front as this old school fork is not yet made for wider tires.

I had a similar year S2 and it came with a standard BSA BB. I used a Sram red GXP crank.

Lovey bike by the way - I was always looking for an S3, but never managed to find one at the right price…

Took my S3 to the Dolomites a few years back. Not the lightest, but felt really good on the downhills :-)
