Here is my new Mosaic RT-1d, courtesy of Oleg @ Stay Tuned Bikes in Bellevue WA USA (near Seattle). This is an n+1 bike for sure. For me, it fills a niche as a smooth, reliable, but racer-responsive bike for the sometimes steep and rough climbs/descents in the foothills and mountains east of Seattle in occasionally wet weather. It sits between a fast aero Argon 18 Nitrogen Pro, a gravel Turner Cyclosys, and a road "rain bike" from Hampsten. I will also ride it in a few centuries and other long rides in 2019 as my friends and I train for a grueling riding holiday this summer.
Since this is WW: Weighs 17.1 pounds; 7.8 kg (weight was not a goal). Key component picks for my purpose are Schwalbe Pro One 28c tires set up tubeless, which measure 30.1 mm on Enve 3.4 Disc wheels. All the bearing-centered components are Chris King. Bars are the newer 3T Superergo, and they are an absolute revelation in shape for me; just perfect via a few small refinements over smilar bars. Drivetrain is eTap, which is new to me, and I am already in love.
Geometry happens to be Mosaic's 58cm stock but the tubeset is skewed toward the stiffer end of their designs. I intended for the geometry to let me sit a little more forward of the BB with a zero setback post, with hips rotated down, to ride low in the drops. It's my normal fast riding position and this bike nails it. I am still playing with the steerer-stem stack height before cutting the steerer tube, but am guessing I will drop it another 5 or 10 mm lower.
The ride is utterly perfect. I have had a lot of bikes in my garage during 30+ years of racing and riding, and this one is my favorite all-around roadie. The combination of those wider tires and the damping of the frame make the ride smooth, but when you stand up to sprint or corner hard, the bike responds like any of the carbon superbikes I have owned or tried. It's really incredible. By the way, in years past I owned two other ti road bikes and this one is far better (2002? Merckx Millenium 3 was super flexy and vague in front, flexy in BB; 2009? Lynskey R330 was more responsive to power but shimmied badly on descents above about 35mpg/55kph). It's amazing how all of the bad traits of those past ti bikes are absent in this Mosaic, yet the ride is even better.
