The compression device should be installed so that it reinforces the steerer where the stem clamps. As you have it installed, it does not. You're running the risk of crushing the steerer tube. I'd advise you cut the steerer at no more than 90mm above the top of the compression ring and install the compression device so it can do it's job of resisting clamping loads.

Hi Dave,

This assembly was done by the Felt dealer. They recommended this approach for confirming bar/seat position.

The bike is going to the shop today for the final steerer tube cut. Should I ask that the fork/steerer tube be inspected?

I see. I would check the steerer, yes.
I've been on the road in Taiwan and China since before Halloween. With sporadic internet access and long hours working in the factories I have piled up over 1000 emails that need my attention. Apologies if I haven't been able to check and find yours just yet. What email address should I look for or what was the subject?
