Work in progress.. I couldn't find a CX that could tempt me this year, and I've been looking for a while, even considering Open and the 3T Exploro.
I decided against buying new this year and instead refurbishing my trusty old (and very heavy) alu CX from 2011 to fit an integrated Di2 groupset I had laying around (10s).
It turned out the process wasn't as straight forward as I had hoped. I planned to use the drain hole on the chainstay to route the wire through the BB house and up into the seat tube and a hole on the downtube to go the same route through the BB, into the seat tube. The holes from these tubes going into the BB are tiny though, approximately 8 mm in diameter. The E-tube plug is roughly 5 mm, and I drilled the external holes to 6 mm, avoiding the welds.
I used an old shifter cable as a guide, duct taping the Di2 wire to the shifter cable. The internal junction box had to be fitted inside the seat tube and I stuffed the battery into the seat post.
This bike is an old beater and built with very thick aluminium but it seems nothing was damaged in the process. Picture of the entire bike to follow later.
