Correct! I've always thought it's a bit of an odd thing to have up there TBH.

@ Monkeyboy - how are you enjoying the Costa?

Found some dirt to test out my new Challenge Parigi-Roubaix tires. Really nice ride when paired with Challenge 28c latex tubes.

Got out for one more mountain ride before leaving Pau. These are on the Col de Tentes, the highest road in the area at 2208m.

With a broken hanger on my road bike, i cruised up here on my TT bike

Tried to push on from the col de Tentes to the Port Bousharo - The road becomes a track with a ribbon of tarmac...

End of the road - rock slide stopped me.

Nice photos!

Rode my last threepeat of Mt Donna Buang - 50.4km climbing 110km total in preparation for my coming USA trip.

No snow this week, but bike computer registered 3 degrees celcius which wasn't accounting for the wind chill due to the strong northerly. Took alot of will power to turn around at the base in the relative warmth of the valley for the final lap...

How wide is that "road" or track? Are cars, trucks, or buses allowed on it?

It's about a meter wide of tarmac. Big boulders at the Col de Tentes to stop cars getting onto the track. Not sure if it carried on to the Port Boucharo but the landslide sort of blocked it for road bikes :)

Grass is greener and all that... But I wouldn't be dismissing the quality riding you have in the States jmilliron. I am coming next week specifically for a three week riding holiday to sample what you have at your doorstep. The climbs in the States are often longer and definitely much higher than anything I have ridden in France or Italy...

Hey Routier, yep loving the Costa with its disgustingly good tarmac ( it's gonna be a shock going back to British roads that is for sure.) Loads of cyclists out and much more respect both up and down dale from motorists. Waking up to 25degrees c every day and heading out for a few hours is heaven. Filling pockets with wild fruit for the journey home and filling up bottles from mountain springs is the icing on the cake. The joy of a holiday eh....back to reality soon enough.
Some pics from yesterday, up and down Coll de Rates towards Castells.

Went for a nice ride in Kent yesterday, 75 miles mostly traffic free on country lanes

Chilham, our lunch/cake/coffee stop. The church dates from the 15th century and the pub from the 16th century so pretty old

The bacon was pretty good :D

Our rides for the day, on top of the Wye downs. We had a few rain showers on the way back when those clouds came over
