WW gang,

does anyone run DT Swiss GRC Spline 42 hoops on their road bike? What is your experience? I am mulling between these and 303S, or probably 303 Firecrests. GRC is thw widest of all, so I may run 30mm road tyres easily and still enjoy some aero gains, but I am open for any suggestions here. Bike's max tyre clearance is 30mm per manufacturer's data chart (Trek Emonda SLR 2021).

Both are high quality, with aero advantage lying with whichever tire you mate with either. Both are going to make a 28c fit like a 30c / 30c-> 32c. The DT swiss hub is slightly nicer. I'd get whatever one is priced better and put the right front tire on it. To run a 30c tire from anyone, you'll want a 32mm wide rim.
FWIW, I couldn't get a full 30c tire / wide rim on my 2018 disc model as the fork ceiling was the limiting factor. That was a 28c rated bike, as is your 2021 SLR from what I see.

THe Zipp 303s rim is only 27mm wide, so you'd want to run 25-26c (Zipp says 28c for some reason - the 28 is probably a specific tire) with that. The 303f is 30mm wide, so that's built for a proper 28c tire. I'd run these 28c front/30c rear. Looks like the Zipp 303s are $850 to the US here - https://www.lordgun.com/zipp-303-s-carb ... ar-wheel-1

Swiss- The DT Swiss being easier to swap freehubs on if you've got another DT Swiss wheel/bike (it's just yank and plop). It's probably also quieter. Look at the ERC 45 as well for the 28c front setup. It might be a better deal. Note - this is the exact same thing as the DT Swiss wheel if it's cheaper for you ($1145 usd shipped vs $1500+) https://www.swissside.com/collections/g ... 9718655075

Note2: these might be a good value for you too. Also built for a 28c front tire. https://www.trekbikes.com/us/en_US/equi ... Code=black https://www.tradeinn.com/bikeinn/en/ffw ... 38422755/p https://www.ffwdwheels.com/products/tyr ... 3d5f&_ss=c

I've picked up Reserve 40|44 from competitve cyclist/backcountry. It's on sale (25%) at the moment. Checks all the boxes for me: 25mm internal, 33/31mm external, hooked(!) and lifetime warranty at 1460 grams (need to verify that).
There're DT240 and DT180 versions, that are even lighter, but not on sale, and i cannot justify price bump for myself.
There's one set left in stock as of now.

I have opted for Reynolds ATR in the end. 40mm profile, 23mm internal, 32mm external, 1600 grams (weighed, tubeless tape on but no valves) and got en excellent deal on them, basically paid Zipp 303S price. Will use them with tan sidewal Schalbe Pro One tubeless tyres for now (28mm), but plan to switch to the new 30 mm Specialized Turbo tubeless tyres, when they will become available.

The weight difference between GRC 1400 and 303 Firecrest is approximately 200 grams. I wonder what is the main reason for that. I suppose the DT Swiss rim cannot be much heavier than the Zipp rim. Has anyone ridden both: is the weight difference noticeable?

203gm to be exact.
861+750 vs 769+640

No idea how that works between rim/hub, but +50gm for rim and + 50gm for hub in each wheel looks pretty realistic to me.
Zipp doesn't include tape or valves. Probably same with DT-Swiss tho.

Zipp weight limit is 115, DT Swiss is 130.

P.S. Check Reserve 40|44 (1460gm in DT-350 version) and Terra CL/CLX (1408/DT-450, 1296/DT-180).

Yes, just fixed my typo. Meant to write 200 grams.

According to the product images at r2-bike, the weights for both Zipp and for DT Swiss include the tubeless tape, but no valves.

I have the GRC 1400's on my gravelbike and use them on my road bikes when things are rough.

They do fairly ok, although you can feel they are not the lightest and or most responsive wheels around. I used them on Paris-Roubaix challenge for peace of mind and they did great. Schwalbe pro one 30mm blow up to 32/33mm on these rims.

The availability of the GRC 1400 700c wheels has been quite poor lately. I wonder if there is an update coming? Or perhaps even some new gravel wheels from Dt Swiss. :o

I've picked mine up a couple of months ago. They were already quite hard to find and sold out nearly everyone. If shops did get them in stock, it was only one set which sold out the next day.

Not saying there's not an update coming, the model itself is over 4 years on the market now, but I wouldn't take the bad availability as the main indicator.
