Question for clincher set tyres on Roval 50mm wheels:

1. which new tyres to choose (must be retro style): Continental GP 5000, Vittoria Corsa G2.0, or something else?

2. Which width (25mm or 28mm). Until now I had 25mm, but I was reading than on tarmac and todays not soo good roads, 28mm is more quicker with holes in the tarmac?

Conti gp 5000 25 mm with vittoria latex tubes. You shouldnt need anything else.

What is the internal and external width of the Rovals?

Latex tubes are faster than butyl tubes by a couple of watts per wheel. They tend to have a more supple ride as well. They do lose air more quickly and a a bit more fiddly to mount - since they are so supple, they are easilly pinched between the tire and the wheel. I take a butyl as a spare for that reason as I'm likely less careful on the side of the road changing a tube.

Then it make no sense to replace it with regular conti speed tubes, as roads these days are very tough...

What about 25 vs 28mm tires, what is now better option?

It depends on the internal and external rim width. For maximum aerodynamic performance you want a the external rim width to be 105% of the actual measured tire width - and that width will depend on the internal width of the rim. For example I have rims that are 23mm internal/30mm external and my 700x25c tires measure 29mm on those wide rims.

I'm not even sure which Roval 50mm wheels you are asking about but the Roval Rapide CLX wheels appear to be 21mm interal and 35mm (front) and 30.7mm (rear) external per Specialized's website. In that case I would go with 28mm tires.

I have Roval CL50, which I think are same as CLX50 at dimmensions - so 28mm 🤙

Per their website the Roval CL50 Disc shoes 21mm internal and 29mm external. It also looks like they optimized it for a 25c tire (26mm measured). I might go with a 25mm GP5000 tire in this case.

In the tunnel, we tested every wheel, ours and the competition's, with a 24C tire (measuring 26C), as tires can drastically affect testing. We chose a modern-width tire to design our rims around, because they not only allow for less tire pressure (which results in more comfort and less rolling resistance) but are also just as aerodynamically efficient when paired with the correct rim width.

Now it was time for final testing validation. The result? A 50mm-deep, 1515-gram clincher wheelset that's race-ready and wallet-friendly.

Rim Type: Carbon clincher, 2Bliss-Ready
Rim Material: Carbon
Braking Surface: Disc brake only
Rim Depth: 50mm
Rim Width: 20.7mm internal, 29.4mm external

Hi I have a set of Roval Rapide CLX's I used to use Specialized Turbo Cotton with Latex tubes no punctures in one year of use 26mm at the front and 28mm on the rear. Tyres required replacement so I ordered Michelin Power Cup 25mm for the front with 28mm at the rear with RideNow TPU tubes. Both sets of tyres measured the same 28mm on the front and 30mm at the rear I would say Turbo Cottons felt slightly more supple running the same pressures 74 psi at the front 68 psi at the rear however the TPU valves save 55 grams for each tyre.

Hmm, currentlly I have on Roval CL50, Vittoria G2.0 25mm tires.

If I measure those tires, it's in reality 27.5mm which is wider than rim itself (even if it's written inside specification Rim Width: 20.7mm internal, 29.4mm external).

Based on that than 28mm tire will be too much for my rims?!? But on the other side everyone today are riding on 28mm...

28mm will be too wide for maximum aerodynamic bennfit, and they might make the wheel a bit more unstable in crosswinds but they will work fine if the comfort of the wider tire is more important to you, and it if it, there is absolutely nothing wrong with that.
