Thinking about buying an SL7. I live in a hilly area (most of my 30-50 mile ride have 3000-4000ft of climbing) but I'm a big guy (6'3", 195lbs and dropping). FTP is around 3.5 wkg if that matters

Given the constant rolling hills that I do, I'm wondering whether to put lightweight wheels or deeper wheels on the bike.

I've narrowed it down to:

-Roval Alpinist CLX II
-Roval Rapide CLX II
-Enve SES 2.3
-Enve SES 3.4
-Enve SES 4.5
-Zipp 303FC

I'll probably be running 28c tires at 70ish PSI (the roads are rough and I do value comfort), so hookless vs hooked doesn't really matter to me. I do value aero and speed, but comfort is important too.

70 psi is right around the limit for certain wheels (enve 4.5 ar for example).
I'm not sure if you can do "same psi fits all": recommended pressure for 3.4 (25mm) with 28c and 200lbs rider is 62 psi. And max pressure (240lbs rider) is 67 psi. IIRC 70psi is max allowed pressure on 25ID hookless enves.
Obviously going narrower will let you run higher pressure (hookless again).

Hooked 25ID rims allow 100+ psi pressures, aka no limitations.

New Enve 4.5 has max pressure 80psi if the tires allow.

Dont buy the Rapide, they are horrible for downhills. I would go for Enve 4.5 or buy something more reasonable priced from Farsports.

I can not second that the Rapide are terrible for downhills. The are actually pretty amazing in my experience...

Rapides have been great in crosswinds and downhills for me as well. I think all of your options would be fine, though since you stated that aero and speed are important I would cross off the Alpinist and Enve 2.3 / 3.4s from the list.

What if I got the Tarmac Pro with the Rapide CLs and got some of the new Alpinist CLX IIs? That would cover aero and lightweight.

You may need to adjust calipers when swapping disc brake wheels if unlucky. I feel it's easier to have "one wheelset to rule them all." Also Enve 3.4, 4.5 or Zipp 303 with 25mm internal width is likely more comfortable than either of 21mm Rovals on rough roads. Enve 4.5 sounds like your best bet if you also want aero.

Agreed, significantly more stable than my Enve 4.5's. Great wheels

I ended up going with the new Enve 4.5s and an SL7 Pro. Wonder how much better, if any, the Enves will be versus the Rapide CLs. Should be about 200g lighter. Wonder how much more aero, though?

Thanks, I'm looking at the 4.5's and crosswind stability is one of my main concerns!
I think the new ones greatly improve on that.

I've got a pair of CLX and CL Rapides. The CLX are phenomenal wheels, very good in crosswinds and never had an issue downhill.
