Hi Guys, I'm interested in getting one of the new rims but would like to know more.
i'm not a very good hands on kind of guy , looking into hub options that requires no/less maintenance.
My local dealers only have a few hub options available (Enve alloy, Enve Ceramicspeed , Chris King, Carbon-Ti), I like the enve alloy hub sound quite abit but does the hub requires frequent maintenance (somewhere like every 1000kms) ?
Personally I looking into exotic options as well, looking at Tactic TR01 but might need to get it done up somewhere else and ship it internationally, not sure if that would be difficult on the warranty.
My local 2nd hand market for the previous SES 5.6 looks well priced with ENVE hubs but in the dilemma if future proofing with the new hookless system would be a good idea considering this is my first expensive wheelset purchase and understand that ENVE does not provide lifetime warranty for new wheelset purchase anymore.
I dont think i will be able to feel the marginal performance difference going for the previous ses 5.6 or getting the new 4.5 or 6.7.
What do you guys think ?
Thanks!

Uhh, if you want futureproof, you shouldn't get hookless.
Can someone point me to the evidence/stories/etc. on why hookless seems to be frowned upon?

Pros:
Easier to manufacture / easier to get good compaction
Cheaper to manufacture
Lighter
Cons:
Worse tire retention / lower max pressures
Use with regular clinchers at your own peril

Sounds like people need to have an eyes wide open approach to hookless and understand the nuances and differences.TobinHatesYou wrote: Cons:

As for me, I haven’t had any issues on my 4.5AR’s (running 28’s with tire pressures in the high 60’s) and now my 6.7’s (running 25’s in the high 70’s). I’m a big guy (95kg) and have raced crits and road races without any issues (Cat 2 masters racer).

I still like using 25s as a breakaway type. And with 25s at Copperopolis, Snelling, Madera, etc. I'm running 90+ psi even at 63kg so a large pothole doesn't destroy the tire.
For me at Copperopolis I ran 29’s (they measured out to 32mm) at 55psi and had Vittoria tire inserts. Felt pretty good given the poor road conditions.

ENVE + certain tires is basically impossible, but I would try this:
Mount the tire without the Air Liner at max allowed pressure. Let the tire stretch for some time. Unmount one side only and try to insert the Air Liner.
That’s pretty much what I did with a well used set of tires.

Heavy spokes?
A pair of 180EXP are 104g lighter than Enve Alloy, and my pair of 2.3 on Enve were 1,204g, so like for like, yours should have been 1,100g on the nose.

Wasn't my set being built up, but I would assume you're probably right on using heavier spokes.
We were actually talking about my 6.7's and he mentioned the 2.3 weight as part of a build for another customer.
