cool.. I've had my 5000S TRs on for a few weeks... they should be ready. I've always tried new tires and failed for the most part.TobinHatesYou wrote: ↑Tue Jun 21, 2022 5:55 am
ENVE + certain tires is basically impossible, but I would try this:
Mount the tire without the Air Liner at max allowed pressure. Let the tire stretch for some time. Unmount one side only and try to insert the Air Liner.

The Aeolus RSL comparison seems apt again. 51/51mm, 23mm/31mm wide, hooked, 1410g, DT240s
vs
SES 4.5 50/56mm, 25mm/32mm, hookless, 1380g custom built with DT180s.
Nothing really in it except the Aeolus can be used with regular clinchers or tubeless at much higher pressures for the occasional races on pristine road surfaces.

Got another pair to weigh? One of my Aeolus RSL rims actually weighs less than claimed. Also DT180 vs DT240 is more than the difference between the actual weight of the wheels you’ve shown and the ENVEs shown above, right? I bet the rim weights are really, really, close.

Weight was pretty much as I expected, very easy to build too.
Off to Germany, Dolomites and Switzerland to ride the Maratona, Stelvio, Furka, Gothard etc. so big mountains and looking forward to it. Will report back

Very pleased he setup was Tarmac SL7, Dura Ace 9270, Enve 4.5 with DT180 hubs. THm cranks with Favero pedals. Bike weight 6.5kg. My weight is 62kg.
Overall the wheels climbed better than expected with the Enve 27 tyres, grippy yet rolled really well. Top of cols in windy conditions the wheels remained relatively stable, only minor buffeting in higher wind conditions. Nothing as scary as the Zipp 454NSW.
Overall very pleased and at no point did I feel the need to reach for my spare shallower depth rims.

Ordered up some new 4.5s. Got them today. They seem to have some of the QC issues that others have noticed: bubbly decals, sharpie marks where the decals go, and a big old piece of silicon or something in the rear rim that I had to fish out. Annoying. Tires (29c Enves) were hard to mount and required my air compressor (a small investment I would recommend to all tubeless users) to seat. I double taped the rims, so I hope they hold air.
These things better be awesome.
I wrote Enve this evening, and to be fair, they wrote a very detailed message back and offered to rectify the situation. I appreciate that and I know it’s hard for them to get all of this new product out.
They weigh almost exactly the same as the Rapide CLs that came on my bike when considering the larger, heavier tires and with 30ml sealant.
Weight without tape or valve was 1470g with the XDr body.
Enve 29c tires sit nicely on them and measured a ginormous 32mm, sitting flush with the rim.

Wheels were true and, with some additional grease to the ratchet, everything spins nice and smoothly. With a 1mm washer on the rear centerlock, I didn’t need to adjust the brake calipers at all, so I should be able to switch between the Rapide CLs and 4.5s quickly.

Were you able to clean the sharpie marks off? That's super annoying.

Yeah, just scrubbed them with some Silca gear wipes. Came off eventually. 5-10 minute job.Jackofallgrades wrote:Were you able to clean the sharpie marks off? That's super annoying.
